Benton's hams'

This is a place where the Mayor, myself and Poverty has visited.  It is extremely good.

    Poverty Pete and I split the cost of a whole (boned) unsmoked but cured Ham, called Proscuito, but not 'presliced' as most deli-Proscuito is packaged. It lasted forever in my Regfrigerator and was delicious right down to the last pieces.
    Pete got some Bacon also and gave it real good ratings also. I hope to get back to visit Benton's Meats soon, as much to talk with Allan Benton, as to purchase some more of his excellent meat products.

    Paul, that was interesting. i;ve heard about that guy's hams and bacon. I really hope to get a chance to try his prosciutto.

    Michael,  Allan is really nice fellow. He has taken us thru his facility several times and is a real fountain of information on the curing process for Hams and Bacon. His meats aren't cheap, but they are outstanding quality.

    Here it is ready for wrapping. We wanted to do our own thin-slicing at home.

    Benton's one of my favorite places.  I love the attitude as well.  This place has restaurants and grocery chains clamoring for their products and they have no interest in becoming a mega company.  Happy just like they are.

    I stopped in yesterday on my way home from Atlanta.  Allen said he sells 14,000 hams and 40,000 bellies in a year.  Most places like him sell that many in a week.

    I reside about 40 miles from Madsonville and I have stopped at Allen Bentons famous place many times.  I enjoy his Prosciutto the best.
     
    I have had many Roadfood visitors there and each has always bought plenty.  The Mayor introduced me to the prosciutto first and the thin sliced 18 month old ham is outstanding.  I have never bought one of their hams.  If I did, I doubt that I would get the smoked.  I have bought their smoked bacon and it is tasty but when you cook it, prepare your house to smell like smoke.  Carlton is correct when he indicated that they sell primarily to top places in NYC and Blackberry Farms.  Many folks advertise around Knoxville that they sale Bentons bacon.

    When I was living in Alaska Poverty sent me some bacon.  It was delicious.

    I've been buying Benton's products for years--always have some of his bacon in the freezer.  I particularly like his prosciutto "frizzled."  Try it. :)
