Best Bacon to Top Hamburgers?

I am trying to find a good quality bacon to top my burgers with. It seems as though my breakfast bacon just doesn't cut it. I prefer a nice smoked slightly thick cut bacon. I have eaten at restaurants over the years where the bacon was perfect but I did not ask which brand it was because I really wasn't into home cooking until the last 5 years.

Many of our Roadfood friends including myself have bought Alan Benton's hams and bacon.  It is super and if you like a smoky taste and thick bacon, this is the place.
Alan is a craftsman and his product which is used by many very expensive restaurants in NYC and everywhere else.  Many advertise the use of Bentons hams and bacon.

As a user, I strongly suggest you try their product.

As do I.  It's our house bacon.  Get the thick-sliced, though (or the slab if you like to slice your own).  Once you are on their email list keep an eye out for those times when they offer free shipping, which helps.

With shipping, Bentons bacon would cost me about $10/lb and the other two places mentioned would be over $15/lb. I would like to try those brands but I am happy with some of our regional brands like Kunzler or Hatfield. Usually can pick those brands up for less than $4/lb. Kunzler might be available in the DC area and they sell what I think is apretty good thick cut variety. Of course if I ever tried those super premium brandsI may change my tune. Better off just sticking with the cheaper brands.

I don't put bacon on my burgers, but my current bacon of choice for other things is Sugardale's peppered bacon.

Both Nueske's and Bentons are quality bacon. I give Nueske's the decided edge due to its  leanness and  pronounced sweet, smoky flavor.

I buy Benton's Hams and Bacon, usually an annual purchase when we pass somewhere nearly his smokehouse near Knoxville. Shipping costs for most of this sort of thing are so high that mail-order is really not a smart choice for us.
Alan Benton is very knowledgeable about producing good hams and bacon.  I recommend his meats to anyone seeking the 'best'.

The best storebrand that we buy when we can get it is Costco's Maple Smoked Thick Sliced Bacon. It is packed in two pound plastic wrap, two packs to an order (four pounds). Usually about $11-12 an order. We like it in BLT's and on Burgers, a lot !

Thanks FoodBme. I will try to check them out.

Thanks to everyone for all of the suggestions. I have tried Nueske's years ago and they were very good. I ate their bacon for breakfast, never tried to top a burger with it. I just placed an order with Benton's. There may be a 3 week delay, I guess he's busy. I will let you all know how it goes.

Have to put in a word for Maryland-based Hahn's -- http://www.porkandbeansstore.com/default.asp?iId=HILHG .  They are based in Westminster, Maryland and they make great bacon and ham.

I am glad The Mayor piped in. He turned me on to the Costco bacon he mentions above and it is indeed very good!

I always get it from my local meat market. Its about $5.50 a pound but it is the best around here. Not overly salty but very flavorful.

Sam's Club, has a thick cut Hickory Smoke Bacon that I like.
I do my bacon in the oven, some times in a cast iron skillet
if I would to save some of the grease.

Same here, just the local market in Ladoga, In. And it's only 3.65.

Update:

I tried the Benton's Bacon and I loved it! Unfortunately, my doctor has now instructed me to watch my salt intake and I don't know how much sodium is in each strip of Benton's Bacon but I'm sure it's A LOT since it's salty. I will be checking out the rest of the suggestions in this thread, but also welcome new ones for LOW SODIUM bacon that tastes good enough to top a burger.
