Best FF Milkshake

I don't know which is the best, I do know Wendy's has one that is impossible to get thru the straw, I hate to say it but Mickey D's has a pretty tasty Pumpkin shake, around Halloween. I don't like BK shakes at all, the question is, is how does one, even a FF place screw up a shake. What's you take on the FF shake?

Hands down DQ. Though I'm not sure if they would be included since ice cream is their thing. But they are FF and they do have good shakes.

I'm partial to DQ as well but as mentioned it's hard to mess up a mixture of ice cream, milk and sugar.

I'd say either Ritter's or Culver's.

The only one I ever get is a chocolate shake at White Castle when I am feeling decadent.

When I was out in California, tried an In N Out shake and it was great...otherwise DQ has a great shake....also Johnny Rockets...if that qualifies as "fast food".

I like the cherry shakes from DQ although my favourite is from a small local burger chain we have in Alberta called Burger Baron, they do a wonderful root beer milkshake and also a banana milkshake made with fresh banana which I also love.

I don't know if you can consider it fast food, but here in NYC, the shakes at BRGR and Goodburger are both phenomenal.

My family owns a Dairy Queen, and maybe twice a year I'll have one of our milkshakes. They're good, but if I have a craving for one, I'll drive a few miles across the Ohio river and get one at G.D. Ritzy's in Evansville, IN. A DQ shake is good, but one from G.D. Ritzy's is richer.

chewingthefat ..... the question is, is how does one, even a FF place screw up a shake. What's you take on the FF shake? McDonalds and a few other chains publish the ingredients list of their shakes; I have not found one for DQ. Even with the ingredients list, you can not tell if they are made with fresh fluid milk and cream, or with what I call dairy muck - those processed milk products such as evaporated cream, dried milk and cream, etc. Ultra-pasteurized this-and-that. These products are not sold at retail. You only read about them in dairy industry publications. That is why the Keller line of butters sold in the NYC area are produced in Texas - cost. DQ blends together their soft-serve ice cream with milk. Some chains get a mix from a dairy plant which they put in the shake machine. It is that mix which is the culprit, as it is made from dairy muck.

I've come to not like shakes anymore from most of the chains. Â They seem "Foamy" to me and not shake consistancy. Â I want them made from hard ice cream and milk, not shot out of a machine.

its only a "milk shake" if its made from real ice cream, milk, flavored syrup & mixed by a milk shake mixer. if they pull a lever on a machine & this goop comes out, its not a "milk shake"

Where I come from it's only a milk shake if it's made with milk and syrup. If it's made with a single scoop of ice cream mixed in it's a Freeze, and if they add a single scoop of ice cream after it's mixed it's a float. In areas to the north of where I come from a milk shake that has the scoop of ice cream mixed in is a frappe.

I've ordered malted shakes two or three times and DQ and the malted powder apparently wasn't mixed in with the milk first because I got clumps of powder through my straw, which was kind of a turn-off.

McDonald's shakes From Snopes. No ice cream but does contain milk products. With easy availability of real milkshakes I can't conceive of ordering anything not handmade.

FF shakes, give me a Culver's, with Butter Pecan/Butterscotch being the flavor of choice. I used to really enjoy a 'Black and White' shake from HoJo's. Vanilla ice cream, hot fudge sauce and milk in the Steel beater cup. Sometimes I would make it with their Buttercrunch Ice Cream and it was even better. ( I worked there 50 years ago.) Today, Graters makes a wonderful 'Mocha Chip' Shake using that flavor ice cream as the base. Their Peach Shakes (in season) are worth the 15 mile trip to get one!

Cook Out, a N.C. small chain has the best shakes. They have 30-40 flavors according to the season. Drive thru only, truly fresh flame broiled burgers. The Watermelon shake in summer sounds pretty bad,, but it's a must try thing.

I had a milkshake while eating inside the Wilson, NC Cook Out. I don't understand milkshakes so thick even Linda Lovelace could not get it thru the straw. I believe Mcdonald's does not call them milkshakes, just shakes I think.

Another vote for Steak N' Shake...there's something to be said for REAL ice cream (soft serve shakes...really???) mixed with milk and syrup. Besides which, where else can you get peanut butter-chocolate-banana milk shakes?
