Well, the McDonald's double cheeseburger is no longer just a dollar, it's $1.19. For a buck they have the McDouble, and it has just one slice of cheese.

I like them both, but I'm within walking distance (1 block) of McDonald's, so the double cheeseburger (a combo currently costs $2.99) would get a slight advantage.

To me, the bacon on the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger is stringy and tasteless, so when we want a $1.00 burger from Wendy's we order the Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe. It's no longer on their menu board, but you can still order it. To me, it's not a matter of which is best, but which one am I in the mood for at the time I want a budget burger. Let me offer a third choice of a $1.00 burger. Sonic's Jr. Burger Deluxe is very good for a budget burger. It's got lettuce, tomato, mayo, onion and pickle, and the burger has a smokey grilled taste. Of course, if you don't have a Sonic close by, my suggestion isn't worth much.

Is the meat patty bigger than a White Castle one? No ketchup?

NYPIzzaNut ...I would get a White Castle and put the change in one of my grandkids' piggy banks...I would not be caught dead at the two places you posted about... Maybe he doesn't have a WC close to him, or maybe he just wanted to know opinions on which of these budget burgers were better. I know it's important for some on here to use any post about any FF item as a means for bashing a particular restaurant, but I don't think that's what the OP asked. OK, you don't like McD's or Wendy's. Apparently, other people do, so why take the time to post to the thread? I'm not much on NY style Pizza, but I don't jump into discussions about it to let everyone know that their opinions basically suck.

The McDouble w/ no cheese. It gets made fresh that way and... I hate MD cheese. Churches makes a $1.00 chick sandwich w/ some kinda spice dressing... not bad! Joe

NYPIzzaNut Remember less is more. I eat WC's occasionally, but I sure don't see that their "less" is more. Their sliders are what they are. They're addictive little things that can fill you up if you eat 6-8 of them, but I wouldn't put them in a Top Ten list of FF fare.

I think (sometimes) that I prefer the bacon job from Wendy's ---- for some reason I have always prefered Wendy's and it may be because I liked the commercials the bossman did for them---Mr Thomas I think. This poll is to satisfy 2 grandsons who were debating the subject in the backseat of my Ford limo -- weighing the merits of each while I sat in the middle of the highway not knowing if I should turn left or right. Like Soloman I decided that we go to one and then the other and each boy have one half of each gourmet treat------instead both had a Wendy's plus a Mac and I paid double the price. I went home and had a double Manhattan. Never have smart grandkids ---- they beat you every time !!!!

I'm upset with McD's. They've removed a pickle from their regular burger leaving only one. The pickle is the best part! They've already removed the meat, what's next?

Michael Hoffman And to think, I always order my Mcdouble without pickles. No wonder we have people being laid off in Holland, MI (Home of the Heinz pickle plant which has been the provider of dill pickle chips to McD's for over 40 years now). Between them removing a slice of cheese and now I learn a slice of pickle is MIA and Michael you are telling them to hold your dill chips what's this world comming to - what's next - McDouble's served "Open Face"?

I would be willing to bet that the layoffs have absolutely nothing to do with people who don't like pickles on their burgers. As to the original question, I'd have to say McDonald's over Wendy's. I don't know what Wendy's does to their burgers, but they always taste to me like they were trying too hard to make them taste fresh and grilled. Kinda like the food equivalent of spraying new car scent in a '65 Charger.

My vote goes to the McDouble. I don't miss the other piece of cheese at all --- I think it actually tastes better this way. Andrea

I tried looking for Heinz pickle chips in local supermarket chains for the last two days. They all dropped Heinz in favor of Mt. Olive, Vlasic, house brand, etc. Maybe they need a better sales dept?
