For a small town Gettysburg has restaurants of every description. It just might have something to do with those 2 1/2 million tourists each year. With these sorts of tourist statistics I am sure many Roadfood members have fond favorites as well as deadpan pans of eating in Gettysburg. Let's hear all about it.

My favorite places in G-burg are Tommy's Pizza and the Gingerbread Man.

Tommy's Pizza is our favorite lunch spot in Gettysburg.........great food and a really nice staff of people.

For upscale dining, we love The Dobbin House. The ambiance is all that you would ever ask for, the food and service are great and if you are on a budget, opt for the tavern downstairs where you will have the best onion soup and a good selection of sandwiches and entees.

In another post, I stated my breakfast preference as The Lincoln Diner. Dinner is a different matter, however. With so many choices available, exploration and experimentation become the order of the day. Over the years, I have developed some favorites that I return to time and again:

        Farnsworth House
        401 Baltimore St.

        Blue Parrot Bistro
        35 Chambersburg St.

        Gingerbread Man
        217 Steinwehr Ave.

        Herr Tavern Publick House
        900 Chambersburg Rd.

        Richard's Restaurant
        The Eisenhower Resort

I stayed at The Eisenhower, a few years ago because it was the closest hotel to the Gettysburg Reenactment I was attending. This is how I discovered Richard's Restaurant, the in-house restaurant of the hotel. Richard's is open to all and not confined to guests of the hotel. The menu is simple and straightforward, pretty much what you would expect from an in-house restaurant. The difference here was attention to detail, superb service and each dish done to perfection. The NY Strip Steak never failed to please and soon became my favorite.

Dobbin's House - Tavern or Dining Room
          89 Steinwehr Ave

I wish I lived closer to this wonderful place.

Darn near perfect gingerbread and pecan pies.
Their salads and soups are to die for.

I second this motion! I enjoyed this place so much that I ate there twice in my 3 days in Gettysburg :) I especially recommend the French Onion soup!!
