What'cha drinkin',,,rum or whiskey
Wont ya have a double with me?

by the Noisetts. Its been out about a year and plays in supermarkets now.

Agree one-thousand-percent and love that song! To me, it always sounded like a pre-addled Amy Winehouse fronting James Hunter's band. Very cool.

Just heard a Kingston Trio number for Seafarer John, Michael Hoffman
and any other old geezers besides me-----the retiree's song---

"All The Hard Days Are Over"-----

I sure hope so.  I had enough of them.

Go Irish, whip Purdue.

I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
’til the landslide brought it down

"Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo!
Lawdy, *Baby, Light My Fuse!" (Johhny Winter)

Well, I wasn't plannin' on that one, but I am SO digging this thread!

To wit:
"Strap them kids in
Give 'em a little bit of vodka
in a cherry coke
We're going to Oklahoma" ~~

Dayum Cosmos! I just saw Mr McMurtry a coupla months ago First show I've PAID for in years & "Choctow Bingo" IS my absolute favorite by him!

& G59, I DO love Talking Heads for LO! these many years I have referred to them as "my favorite NEW band"
Saw them twict many years ago,

THIS was the opener that I logged on to post before I got distracted:

"I am an old woman
Named after my Mother
My old man is another
Child that's grown old..."  (John Prine)

But Here Come The Twister (can't help it I think in lyrics when I'm endeavoring to give satisfaction at the Food Emporium & the total sale hits $18.14
I think, "In 1814 we took a little trip..."
("Battle Of New Orleans...")
But "Here Come The Twister..."

"We don't want your arm, we don't want your hand,
All we really want is for you to leave our land;
We don't want your foot, we don't want your toe,
All we really want is for you to pack and go;
We don't want your necks, we don't want your backs,
All we really want is for you to hit the tracks..."

Come To Mama!
CiaoMeOwww Wow Yowl!

Well, we got a storm lyric followed by a Randy Newman lyric, so....

What has happened down here is the winds have changed.
Clouds roll in from the north and it start to rain.
Rained real hard and it rained for a real long time,
six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline.

I couldn't choose which REK so I'm putting up both.

I crossed the desert on a dining car
In the spring of ninety-one
I met some people drinking at the bar
They were laughing having fun
I told 'em that I hadn't heard the joke
That was so hilarious
They said that I was just a dumb cowpoke
I didn't want to make a fuss
So I shot 'em down
One by one
Then I left 'em 'long the rails
I use my gun
Whenever kindness fails

---

You take off from work a bit early
The boss doesn't care if you stay
The guard with the key has to check your ID
But he'd just as soon blow you away

Keeping the weather theme,

My love I am the speed of sound,
I left them motherless, fatherless
Their souls dangling inside out from their mouths...
But it's never enough
I want you

Sick at heart and lonely,
Deep in dark despair.
Thinking one thought only-
"Where is she, tell me where?"
And if she says to you
She don't love me,
Please give her my message.
Tell her of my plea.

And I know
That if she had me back again,
I would never make her sad.
I've got a heart full of soul.

Not many love songs there.

Sad songs, stupid songs, songs of despair-------------

Did your generation have no joy, no happiness, no love???????????

I like the sweet songs to which we danced with our love de jour -----

Those were the days my friend, those were the days.

Did you ever see Dallas
From a DC9 at night?
Dallas is a jewel,
Dallas is a beautiful sight.
And Dallas is a jungle,
but it sure gives off
a beautiful light.
