Ok, my birthday is Friday. I will be turning an older age and I decided to go out for dinner. What chain restaurants would you recommend? Just give me anything decent (I mean above Applebees decent ). Thank you!

I just wanted a second opinion. I already had some ideas, but I want to be sure I'm making the right choice. Besides, I'm in Michigan. It's hard to find places different from an Applebees. It would only be best to ask the experts on Roadfood.

How about a Holiday Inn? That's a chain, and I'm sure the ones in Michigan have club sandwiches.

Your profile says you're in Detroit. Not exactly deep in the Ozarks. There's literally hundreds restaurants better than any national chain within an hour's drive of where you are. Why would you want to specifically go to a chain restaurant? I suggest The Lark in West Bloomfield for a nice birthday dinner. www.thelark.com

However, thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it.

This is the chain forum folks. It's not like he posted this in the "where should I eat" forum. Give him a break. If you loathe chains so much, why would you even read the thread. I would've said Jack Astor's, since it has a fun atmosphere, bar, grill, but the nearest one to Detroit is in London, Ontario. Houlihan's (Auburn Mills) is a decent chain, although I liked their old menu better. The newer menu includes some things like tuna wontons and other asian influenced dishes, which, for me, didn't work. Neither did their SW influenced dishes. But, their more American standard fare was good, the last time I went (almost 4 years) but not as good as their old menu. But, for a birthday with different people's tastes to consider, it's an option. Or, why not go to Hard Rock Cafe. The food isn't great, but it's a fun place. Touristy, but great for a party. You can't go wrong with classic rock music and memerobilia. Of course, in the end, it comes down to what you want. A fun atmosphere and who cares about the food? well, there's even TGIFriday's. They'll even sing to you. At Dave and Buster's (Utics, MI) you can play arcade games. obviously, amost of us on this site would rather recommend a nice local independent hang out for you to celebrate at.

My thought exaxtly Scorereader. Remember what forum we are in. My favorite CHAIN restaurant is Outback and yes, I do like Olive Garden too. For upscale try Ruth Chris. We just had a Dolce open here at a new upscale outdoor shopping complex and it was written up in the "out and about" section of our paper. It got 4 forks and 4 waiters (4 forks being excellent food and 4 waiters being excellent service).

Thanks everyone. I was looking for something on the Ruth Chris or Hard Rock Cafe level. I decided on Old Country Buffet. That's surely a step above Olive Garden.

I was hoping he was serious. Clearly, he's not. But I like to wait and let the person reveal their BS rather than making the assumption.

I vote for Cheesecake Factory... if you have them there. p.s. DON'T DO IT (Old Country Buffet, that is...)
