I've got a beach bonfire coming up. Any suggestions on the best kind of dog to roast over an open fire?

I prefer a natural casing dog over an open fire. They're great when burned. I'm not sure what n/c brands are available in your area. Usinger makes an excellent all beef n/c hot dog.

I agree with CSD. A natural casing dog is the way to go. Of course, it's been a while since I last "roasted" a dog over a fire. Just be sure to get rid of the bark when you sharpen the limb.

When I saw this topic, I have to admit that my first thought was about breeds of dogs. You know, a retriever would make a big meal for a lot of people, and a yip-yap doggie wouldn't be worth the effort. Then I realized that you meant a different kind of dog -- whoops! Joanie (who doesn't like cooked dogs of any kind, and who owns a very thin whippet with no body fat -- he'd be pretty tough to eat!!)

I prefer dachshund, with it's natural casing at that over the fire pit (cooked on hickory sticks)..

Your wife brings members of the Izaak Walton League home from work? I have NO idea what that is....ty for making me feel unedumaketed Ikes are the brand of hotdogs used at the wifes sandwich shop, these puppies look like baby knockwurst when steamed or grilled, plumping up to over an 1.5inches across

Members of the Izaak Walton League of America, a national conservation organization, are known as Ikes.
