Nadine, where do you like in NYC?
Hi Signman
Well.. if I all things being equal- #1 would be
Peter Lugers in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It cannot be beat! That being said however, since they really specialize in the porterhouse, hopefully the people at dinner will be able to compromise on the degree of "welldoneness," or lack of. The people at Lugers, or any decent steakplace will gently suggest that diners not order their steaks, well done.
If I was going with people that loved good wine- then no question-
Sparks, as their wine list is long, and varied, and shockingly, well priced.
In regard to all the others- depends on the mood I am in in regard to ambiance, and decor. The Palm 2, or Smith and Willensky are loud, and casual, while Morton's is a bit more subdued. The Palm's "half and half" can't be beat however to much on. Half thick hot potato chips, and half deep fried thin onion straws.
I never prepare steak at home, as you can't get home ovens hot enough- so.... on "rare" occasion- I love a good steak.
