Best steak in Vegas

My undisguised motive is to start a brawl over this topic through which I and my buddies can profit from our forthcoming trip to the winner. Please, tell me how you really feel about your experiences and biases. - Rusty

I usually do steak at Gallagher's Steak House in New York, New York.

Well, hell. It's either Gallagher's, or no one wants to spill the beans.

Here's my ranked favorites. 1 and 2 are not strictly "steakhouses," but their steaks are great.

1. Drai's http://www.usmenuguide.com/drais.html In the basement of Barbary Coast, great dark, decadent setting.

2. Hugo's Cellar http://www.hugoscellar.com/menu.html Very Old School Vegas. Tableside salad tossing and tableside "hot rock" appetizer. Right out of the '70's.

3. William B's in the Stardust.

4. Delmonico's in Venetian. Comfortable, wonderful service, expensive-- but we do lunch there. One of the few "upscale" steakhouses open at lunch. Part of the Emeril empire.

For me it was Kokomos at the Mirage........
For a great CHEAP steak (5$!) Go to Ellis Island and get their unadvertised steak special.

Vegas has a branch of just about all of the high end national chains now, of course.

While it's been a number of years since I've been there, "The Steakhouse" in Circus-Circus prepares a real steak dinner. That fact was a "secret" of the locals for many years, since "Circus-Circus" and "fine dining" tended to be that proverbial oxymoron in the minds of many.

Also, there's a place called "The Ranchhouse" or "Ranch" in Northwest Vegas, off of Highway 95. It's definitely not a chain. It is a throwback to the days when it was way out in the desert. If you're looking for a good steak, grilled over wood, in a rustic setting, it's worth the trip.

I tried to get in to Alan Alberts (sp?) last time I was there, but could not get a reservation. Smith & Wolinski(sp again?) was very good but not up to the hype.

Even though it's known for seafood, I've always had excellent steaks at The Tillerman.

I've read that the best steak in Lost Wages is Craftsteak in the MGM Grand. It is their porterhouse for 2 and I believe it costs close to $100. I've been to the Craft restaurants in NYC and they are excellent so I wouldn't doubt that they have great steak at their steakhouse.

WhereGreggEats.com had a GREAT suggestion (as usual )with Gallagher's Steak House but my favorie is Delmonico's in The Venetian. Expensive but they have a fantasic wine selection to compliment their great steaks!

I have 3 suggestions. If you want fantastic steak, and great atmosphere- it will cost- but nothing is better than Prime at the Bellagio. Another suggestion- and this place is "hot" is N9ne (no, that is not a typo) at the Palms Hotel. It might actually have the best steak around, and if very trendy. If you are driving around, I would also suggest the Sonama Cellar at Sunset Station. The atmosphere is great, and not at all like the hustle and bustle at so many of the other steak houses. It is by far the best restaurant in any of the Station casinos.

Of course you have all the big chains- Palm, Smith and Wollensky, Mortons, Ruth's Chris... but the one's above are better.

Well.. if I all things being equal- #1 would be Peter Lugers in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It cannot be beat! That being said however, since they really specialize in the porterhouse, hopefully the people at dinner will be able to compromise on the degree of "welldoneness," or lack of. The people at Lugers, or any decent steakplace will gently suggest that diners not order their steaks, well done.

If I was going with people that loved good wine- then no question- Sparks, as their wine list is long, and varied, and shockingly, well priced.

In regard to all the others- depends on the mood I am in in regard to ambiance, and decor. The Palm 2, or Smith and Willensky are loud, and casual, while Morton's is a bit more subdued. The Palm's "half and half" can't be beat however to much on. Half thick hot potato chips, and half deep fried thin onion straws.

I never prepare steak at home, as you can't get home ovens hot enough- so.... on "rare" occasion- I love a good steak.

Can some here give me an idea of the menu prices at Prime at Bellagio

Delmonico's hands down, I've eaten at all the popular steak joints out there, and Delmonico's cannot be touched. You gotta get the bone in rib steak.

I would have to say for the best steaks (with the best view) check out Mon Ami Gabi in the Paris. We were there last weekend (our 8th visit) and they have yet to fail. Try the filet with blue cheese and a side of frites, they also have terrific fish and chicken dishes.

Also save room for dessert, especially the bannanas foster crepes, umm!!!

Hi again- having just been in Las Vegas last week, we had tried two more steak houses- Mon Ami Gabi, and Delmonico's. Delmonico's was superb. Mon Ami Gabi was fine, and the view is great- overlooking the Bellagio fountains. The one thing I fault in Mon Ami Gabi- and it may sound picky- are the rattan chairs. They are not conducive to sitting on for a 2 hour meal. On the other hand- the leather chairs at Delmonico are very comfy, and the service incredibly professional.

I really have to get to N9ne though, as I keep hearing great things. Perhaps it's too trendy for me... but if the steaks are great- I can bear it.

The Flame in Las Vegas was amazing .. great prime rib and baked potatoes like clouds *sigh*

Don't laugh, but it was the Steakhouse at Circus Circus. When I was there a few years ago it was an upscale pick your piece of cow place. The porterhouse could have fed four.

I know it's in a place known for the worst brunch, but they do this better than Ruth Chris's or anyone else for that matter.

The best steak I've ever had in my entire life, and I've had many, was at the Strip at the Brown Derby in the MGM! OMG it was fantastic!

Bringing this post back reminded me that we have not heard from Rustywolf in some time. I checked his (her?) profile, and there are no recent posts. I wonder how the Vegas trip went? Welcome hopocan.....the first post is the hardest.

You know, Tmiles, you got me good. I was hoping nobody would ask, "Well, Rusty, you started this darn post, where did you actually end up going, you beef hound?"

Here's the unvarnished truth: We had eliminated all the contenders and decided unanimously on the Austin Station Steakhouse and were determined to make it there — but we never did. Other pleasureable pursuits in Vegas literally got in the way of officially "steaking out" that trip, and we settled for less than the best ribeye or porterhouse in town in deference to other priorities. Austin's will have to wait until our next visit.

By the way, having been to Alan Albert's in the past, I can attest that it is truly awesome. We made a tactical mistake, though, in allowing ourselves to be talked into a shellfish appetizer that, while excellent, was tres expensive and in the end an unnecessary detour into superfluous gluttony. The morale: Keep your eyes on the prize, men and ladies!

It's been fun seeing this post resurrected. I'm following it avidly!
