Big Apple BBQ Block Party 2008

I was just checking put the pigtrip.net site and some of the pitmasters have been announced for this years' Big Apple BBQ Block Party in NYC. The website is www.bigapplebbq.org.

It's exactly two months until the 6th annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party rolls into Manhattan. On June 7 and 8, you can taste the array of barbecue profiles from Texas to Alabama to Mississippi to the Carolinas and back to New York City as national and local pitmasters converge for this 2-day event. The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party is also an excellent opportunity to meet some of the nation's legendary pitmasters, such as Chris Lilly, Mike Mills, Ed Mitchell and more.

So far, the line-up of New York BBQ restaurants includes:
Blue Smoke (Kenny Callaghan)
Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (John Stage)
Hill Country (Marc Glosserman)
Rack & Soul (John Wheeler)

The line-up of nationally-known restaurants/pitmasters includes:
17th Street Bar & Grill (Illinois, Mike Mills)
Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q (Alabama, Chris Lilly)
Black Jack BBQ (S. Carolina, Jimmy Hagood )
Mitchell's BBQ (N. Carolina, Ed Mitchell)
Salt Lick BBQ (Texas, Michael Rodriguez)
Ubon's (Mississippi, Garry Roark)

Thanks pigtrip man!!

Very much looking forward to this. I had a blast last year. Is anyone else planning on going?

I definitely plan on attending. Let's get some roadfooders together for lunch.

I wonder why Southern Hospitality isn't featured?

I think that's not a complete list just yet. Maybe they'll make it in this year. I'm already getting excited thinking about the pulled pork sandwich from Big Bob Gibson's!

Make it a NYC barbecue weekend.

On Saturday check out NYC's only Barbecue contest, Grillin' On The Bay Http://www.grillinonthebay.org

And on Sunday go to the block party.

A great way to spend a weekend, IMHO

It's just a little too early in our life to do it this year. We talked about it and I spoke to Kenny about it but we're not ready for a big offsite project like that yet.

I was thinking of going to the Saturday contest, but I e-mailed them and they were kind enough to repsond. Unfortunately, much like Memphis in May, the Health Dept. does not allow them to sell the barbeque to the public, so you can go to watch and maybe find some good grub there. If I go where they're making barbeque, I want to be able to eat it.
