Big Bob Gibson's BBQ in Monroe, NC

Rib, I missed your post last year....I think my post
stands for itself...I wish Chris luck, I just don't
think he and 99 percent of people outside of North
Carolina understand the role barbecue plays in our
culture. I find the decisions about the location and
some other stuff I was privvy to when it was being
opened to be odd. I still don't think it will work.

Btw, EB's BBQ was recently named one of the ten best
restaurants in the area to eat. Ever heard of a bbq joint
making a list with French places and steak joints?
That's how good they are.

I just read it, great report. I guess I wont stop there. Too bad. Bob Gibson was an Idol when I grew up. I saw him pitch in the 68 world series. He once said "I owe the public just one thing - a good performance." I guess his restaurant doesn't live up to that quote...Russ

Big Bob Gibson the creator fo BBG never played baseball

he started the que business in the 20's, Bob was 6'4" and well over 300 lbs. Everyone called him Big Bob, he used to work for the railroads, but saw a better future in BBQ.

So I thank him for his decision, cause they do real good bbq (don't know about the SC location, but the AL locations ROCK)


As for the others who said the portions were too small

There is so much food there I can't eat it all



Maybe it is the location thing, and the AL places have tighter control since they are stil family owned, but I have only gotten a bad meal at BBGs once and after a letter to them I got a very apologetic response and a gift certificate that easily made up for what I had ordered and then LOTS more.

Just so everyone knows, that is the Monroe, NC location. It may have been an off day, or a crappy cook.
But If you do go, order the ribs "naked".. Thats what I should have done, and IMHO, it was expensive for the ribs.
