Along with True Romance, The Natural is another favorite of mine that, even though it wasn't a 'purposful' big cast movie a la The Longest Day, nevertheless had a BIG CAST.  Even The Queen Mary had a bit role as the setting for the restaurant scene where "Roy counts his silver".

A Robert Towne script directed by Barry Levinson - it doesn't get better than that.  Many literary snobs didn't like the fact that Towne & Levinson changed Malamud's dreary ending; do not count me among them.  The movie was truly magnificent in every way, including sound and cinematography.

Surprised nobody has mentioned those disaster movies of the 1970's, such as Airport, The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure. They always had big casts. Granted, mostly B-listers and other actors you had forgotten all about, but it was always fun to spot them in these movies. Still is.

How about "You Can't Take It With You"? Lionel Barrymore wore a pretty large cast in that one...

Just watched "Airport '79---The Concorde" Saturday night. Big cast, although not as big as the earlier Airport movies had. Campy nowadays-----it had Jammy 'JJ" Walker in a role that seemed more suited for "Airplane"i

Gone Wth the Wind - Vivian Leigh was the least known actress in it, at the time.
Posiedon Adventure/Towering Inferno
Chinatown - not a lot of actors, but some pretty heavy hitters

While they may not have started as "big cast" movies, both the Harry Potter & Lord of the Rings series have morphed into that genre.

ken8038 - sorry, didn't see your post on disaster movies until after -

There's a few more - Giant, the Misfits, most of Tennessee Williams' stuff - Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Suddenly Last Summer, The Long Hot Summer, Streetcar Named Desire(not a large, but impressive cast)

I have seen 1987's Amazon Women on the Moon on TCM in the  past. It might be an acquired taste (there is some nudity), but I get a kick out of the "cameos."

For sheer star-power it's hard to argue against the Godfather films: Brando, DeNiro, Pacino, Cann, Cazale, Duvall, Keaton - even the smaller and bit parts had actors like Sterling Hayden, Lee Strasberg, Talia Shire, G. D. Spradlin, Abe Vigoda, Harry Dean Stanton, Danny Aiello, Richard Conte and, of course, every member of Francis Ford Coppola's immediate and extended family.

The classic '50's, 60's era actors and actresses in that movie is amazing.  Too bad it doesn't pop up on cable anymore.  It should.

Actually. Hollywood tried a mega-cast sketch anthology in 2013: "Movie 43". And that's why they will never try to make another one.

Perhaps none of you have seen Sharknado. Or whatever the first one was. Every star in the world is trying to be a part of all the sequels. Dumb stuff imo, but its getting a following.

A more recnt one that I like to watch every few years around Christmas is Love Actually.  Lots of big names in that one with several intermingled story lines.

I was a big fan of the disaster movies growing up.  The Posiedan Adventure was on a few weeks ago and I ended up watching a lot more of that than I intended to.
