They indeed look good. I have heard that they will be available in MY area around 2065.

Website was pretty lame... Homebrewed to say the least. No sizeing (Other then 2 5lb bags in a 10lb box), pricing or sales locations listed either... If they where pressing for sales, it seems alot more information would be offered. Not to mention all the hot dog fanatics on this site have never mentioned them before ( thru honest taste sampling)...

What noise? Their website's been down for months. I know of one Chicago hot dog stand that tried them and they're not on their menu any more. I'm not aware of any one selling them in Chicago or Wisconsin.

          Big City Reds.....interesting.

I just got back from the National Restaurant Show at McCormick Place were I tried that Brand. The guy did say that it was the #1 hot dog in chicago. I do find that hard to believe.

Overall, I tried 7-8 different hotdogs and I would put BCR in the middle of the pack.

Hey Tommy. I see you found my post on lth. I do think the sales guy was just making things up.

like I said, It was a good dog but I thought others were better. Maybe their natural casing dog is better but there weren't any to sample.

I had a "Big City Red" at a place in my area called "The Aptos Burger Company." It was truly one of the worst "hot dogs" that I've ever eaten. It was almost tasteless and had a texture simular to styrofoam. I'm not exaggerating!

Thanks a lot, folks. Saves me another expedition to find a dog to serve. I guess my choice boils (npi) down to Sabrett's or Empire National, although I really wish Isaac Gellis franks were still sold.

Have you considered Boar's Head? They make an excellent 8/1 natural casing hot dog. They're sold in Wisconsin and Chicago at upscale food stores. More costly since they're shipped from New York. There are two different hot dog businesses in Seattle that successfully sell them.

                    Thanks for the suggestion.
However, I'm in NYC. Grew up eating Boar's Head cold cuts, and still think they have the best boiled ham I ever ate (except for the Ukranian butcher downtown who makes his own, but that's another deal). Somehow I don't care for their dogs, however. Don't know if they make, or if I ever had, an all-beef model, and I don't, as a rule, care for pork/beef.
Somewhere else I posted that my son had a cookout lately at which he cooked both Boar's Head and Sabrett's, and said the Sabrett's were terrific and the B.H. mediocre. Good enough for me.

Taps, Usinger's is a Wisconsin dog. Kelment's is a Wisconsin Dog. Big City Reds is not a Wisconsin dog. Big City Reds are produced in Yankton, SD, with Wisconsin being one of their meat source states. Polk & Western Dog in Chicago sells them. I've never tried one. BCR has a rep in Northbrook, IL @ (847)714-1640.

Had my 1st Boar's Head yesterday...all beef/natural casing. Very impressed! Nite bite; strong beef taste.

Grasch Foods on North Avenue in Brookfield carries the natural casing Boar's Head hot dogs.
