Biscuits or Toast

The main trouble with the poll, for me, is that there are lots of places where the biscuits are just plain lousy. If they aren't good I'll get toast. I'll also take toast over biscuits if I'm having over easy eggs. Dunking a biscuit in the yolk just doesn't get it done.

Dunking a biscuit in your egg yolk means a good chance of having yellow stuff on your chest, sort of ruining -- at least for the day -- your shirt.

Chewy, this must be an important matter, I mean it's a poll on the front page of a Food site. These things have to be aired out, just like a sleeping bag needs airing out after a camping trip of eating baked beans...............I mean if Michael thinks it's important, I bet it has reached Disneyland by now.........If thats not Goofy, nothing is..............pnwc

My wife makes damn good biscuits (or use to); but I like TOAST!  ... Few restaurants could even match her biscuits; but I like TOAST and I have gotten strange looks from waitress when I ask for TOAST instead of biscuits.

    Gentlemen, Gentlemen, Gentlemen!
You OBVIOUSLY have not mastered the art of eating your eggs with your biscuits.
    It's simple.
    1. First, you need to start with FRESH Extra Large Eggs cooked over easy so you have plenty of Yolk to work with.
    2. Good quality biscuits are a + but not required since the Yolk will compensate for less than perfect biscuits.
    3. Next, GENTLY break the surface of the yolk but not enough so it runs all over.
    4. Next, split your biscuit using your fork.
    5. Then cut a biscuit half in quarters.
    6. Then flip a biscuit quarter on top of the Yolk so that the open side of the biscuit, not the crust side, is emersed in the center of the yolk.
    7. Let the biscuit sit a little bit so it absorbs the Golden Yolk goodness.
    8. Stick a fork in the biscuit, lift it to your waiting lips, open your biscuit hole and enjoy
    9. Repeat as necessary until all the Golden Goodness is embedded in the the biscuits and then devouer the rest of the egg using any leftover biscuit as a pusher.
    10. No extra charge for my years of Biscuit/Egg Eating Wisdom!

Tomato gravy goes on pancakes;   good biscuits is for sausage gravy & syrup!    ... Buttered Toast if for Mahaw jelly, well sometimes strawberry jelly; or sopping the last of the runny eggs from the plate.

Normally I agree with you (although I also like honey and biscuits) but several of us tried the Coffee Cup's biscuits with a tomato cream gravy and it was really good as wells being a unique way to serve the biscuits. If you're ever in Pensacola check it out. Otherwise, Biscuit King in Fairhope, AL makes a mighty good biscuit with sausage gravy.

As I've mentioned, having lived in P'cola, it's the only place I've ever seen that has Nassau Grits and tomato gravy on a menu
I tink they use the tomato gravy as the base to make the sauce that goes into the Nassau Grits.

Grilled Biscuits, I've run into this twice in the last couple of months. Tastes OK but doesn't seem right. Waffle House did it to my sausage biscuits and so did a local diner.  Noticeably brown on the bottom.

The grilled biscuits I had at Hathaway's Coffee Shop in Cincinnati some years ago appeared to be biscuit dough cooked on the grill, not rewarmed baked biscuits.
    They were interesting.  http://www.roadfood.com/R.../hathaways-coffee-shop

I agree with the comments above about the North/South divide.  In the South, I'd always pick biscuits over toast.  But I've had some bad experiences with leaden biscuits in other parts of the country (some of the worst ever were at a place in Montana), so unless I've been able to establish that the biscuits will be fresh, good and homemade (and they are, in some places outside of the South),  I'll opt for toast.

The grilled biscuit I was speaking of consisted of regular biscuits split and covered with whatever spread Waffle House uses and put on the flattop cut side down until browned. The local diner did the same sans the spread.
