lunastic

Many mom and pop shops are like that all over the country.

Monday's are typically the slowest day of the week so many just close.

Also in the south and bible belt many places aren't open on Sunday's

    Okie..
    South Carolina.. Myrtle Beach area.

No "hard" liquor sold on Sundays.
Liquors stores close at 7 PM. Open Mon-Sat.. No sales on election day, but bars are open then.

Restaurants must carry a Sunday sales liquor license.
    Case in point.
My boss, has 2 restaurants in the same resort.
His fine dining place, Martins, does NOT have a Sunday license, but where I work, the Oceanview Cafe does...(At least everyone that works for Martin's always has Sunday nights off.)

But, you can buy beer and wine after 2AM at the gas stations, and Walmart.. Go figure.
I have been seen lurking in the wine aisle around 230AM...
Bars cannot serve hard liquor after 2, but they can still serve beer and wine.
Not sure if that is a county ordinance or state ordinance.

When I was a kid in Staten Island, NY in the early 60's a new hardware store (remember them??) opened up down the street from our house. They started opening up on Sundays and caused a major uproar. Tamandmik is right about Bergen County. No mall walking there on a Sunday. I believe that NY recently relaxed the laws allowing liquor stores to open on Sunday.

Not exactly the same thing but the same concept is the small country of Luxemburg in Europe. They have the lowest gasoline and booze prices in Europe. Makes for a strange combination at the borders. Gasoline places w/ forty to sixty pumps and a booze store the size of Texas. Booze and gas...packed all weekend the gas and booze was so cheap.
