Boars Head Cold Cuts!

Here's an odd bit of info that's driven me crazy for years - when my husband got sober, his group (I call them the AA nazis - they were a wee bit off the beaten path, IMO) warned against MSG. That was just about the end of Chinese food for us for years.

I have to agree with you, my wife use to claim she was allergic to MSG I used it on occasion with out her knowing, she is still with us, fed her peanuts also that did'nt work either. Her latest kick is that she has severe reactions to sourdough, but she sure can wolf down an english muffin with no problem. And I don't care what anyone says about Boars Head I refuse to pay almost $8.00 lb. for American cheese. Chow Jim

Plenty of Boars Head cold cuts here in South Jersey.....but it always is pricey , cheap sob that I am I seldom buy instead I usually get the store brand esp if it is for my lunch at work . I do spend the big bucks however at the local Italian deli , where even though it costs the same or more than Boars Head it is far superior . I do enjoy the free samples when Boars Head or Dietz & Watson set up their little table at my local supermarket .

I have never thought Boar's Head was so superior to the house brands at Sunset in Highland Park, IL. Maybe Sunset makes that good a product.

Great, but too expensive. I won't buy it.

I go to my local Italian deli (Claros). Of course their salami (genoa, alpino, buon gusto, etc.) are from large producers, some of their turkey, ham and roast beef is cooked on site and is just as good or better. I might pay 8/9 dollars for imported cured meats, but I refuse to pay that for ordinary stuff.

Besides, real delicatesans have aromas and atmosphere that you can't get elsewhere.

Our local supermarket (Western New York area) just added the complete line of Boar's Head cold cuts last week. A little pricey but the quality is outstanding.

Boar's Head products were available at Safeway Markets in Arizona but we had a difficult time finding them here in Columbus, Ohio. There were a few Krogers which carried the products but we lucked out when a local lady opened a deli which carries ONLY Boar's Head products so we are elated. Love the products, worth every penny spent on them and we don't overload, but do appreciate being able to enjoy when we want to have cold cuts.

As I always say, quality if always worth the price in my opinion. If we really and truly want and enjoy something, then it is worth whatever price we have to pay. Sort of similar to driving a Lexus instead of a Pinto! Remember those?

Boar's Head mostly sucks! Their roast beef is cooked well done, and is brown and dry all the way through. Try Dietz and Watson roast beef and you'll see what I mean. It's medium rare, tender, and flavorful.

I have had Dietz and Watson roast beef from Tops Markets when they carried the line. For my money, the best roast beef in WNY at the local deli is the Red Osier brand. This is the same roast beef which by the way comes RARE, Medium RARE and Medium that is served at the famous Landmark Red Osier Restaurant in Stafford, NY.

I don't agree but won't argue with you on your opinion that Boar's Head "mostly sucks", but you are wrong that their roast beef is cooked well done. I just bought some last night and it is quite rare, and red almost all the way through and isn't dry at all.

Well maybe not well done, but more medium than MR, or rare.

I really like Boars Head.They sell it at H.E.B.grocery stores in the deli,along with their own brand of deli meats.I buy Boars Head at Thanksgiving or Christmas as a special treat to myself.
Other wise it's Oscar Meyer or H.E.B. brand of luncheon meat or whatever's on sale.
Walmart sells Prima Della deli meats which are tasty.They don't seem to be as high as Boar's Head,but are still not cheap.

Boar's Head roast beef at the local Publix is always very rare. That and the Salsalito (SP?) turkey are two of my favorits.

I agree that the Boar's Head roast beef, at least the roast beef I've bought, is fairly rare. I've tried the Sausalito turkey and it's pretty good. My daughter and her children love it. But I'm a fan of the Cajun-Style turkey from Boar's Head.

I have tried a lot of cold cuts from various companies and it's Boar's Head for me! Price may be higher than others but the quality is superior IMHO! Reading all these posts makes me want a Boar's Head pastrami sandwich as soon as I can get to the deli!!! Long live Boar's Head!!!!

Had BH withdrawal when the original grocery store (Harris Teeter) switched to Dietz and Watson. The clerk told me it was comparable. After one pack of Pastrami I didn't go back! Fortunately, Farm Fresh started carrying Boar's Head. Love all their products!

i just moved to columbus and i NEED to know where they sell boars head lunch meat! im tired of eating slimy turkey! ahhh please help! i cant find it anywhere!

You are clueless...Boars Head is all natural...and you are not going to get a good cut of Filet for $9...maybe select, not choice

Anumber of Kroger stores have Boar's Head. I know that the two in Gahanna do, and so does the one in New Albany. ANother place that has Boar's Head products is Carfagna's Market, an Italian specialty store on Ohio 161, just east of Interstate 71.

In answer to BigSteve8754......Boar's Head products are sold by Mary Jane Deli in Grove City on Broadway. That's all she sells. If she doesn't have something in particular you want, she will order it for you. Also, many Kroger store delis in the Columbus area carry Boar's Head but you would have to call around to find which ones....I did that in the past but can't recall which ones I identified. We live in the GC area so Mary Jane's is our source of all Boar's Head items.

For some reason I thought you lived in the Clintonville area. Perhaps it was your mention of Nancy's. By the way, Columbus Provisions Co. distributes Boar's Head products in central Ohio.

Love Boar's Head. The Stop and Shop's in NH started carrying them a few years ago-thank God!. Dietz and Watson is now carried in Shaw's. Until they started carrying these we seldom ate cold cuts because unlike NJ, up here in NH their store and local brands are yuk!

A lot of people mentioned price. To me this is one area where I believe spending extra $$ is worth it. When we first moved to NH, we tried to get other coldcuts and they were gross-go bad in a day-unedible. Plus they do not preslice the Boar's Head. They preslice many of their store and other brands up here and I think that is disgusting. I know they are trying to save time, but I want my coldcuts freshly sliced

Thanksgiving is coming up,so I think I'll get me some Boar's Head as a treat.Yes,their cold cut meat is pricey.I just by for myself a half pound or say turkey and beef.
H.E.B. also sells Boar's Head frankfurters,and other stuff.
haven't seen Diezt and Watson around here.Not unless they have it at H.E.B.Central Market down on Broadway next door to the University of the Incarnate Word.
I love going in there and just looking at stuff.You can go to their deli section and buy all kinds of things.They have salads,roasted meats etc.You can even buy complete meals there.Try www.hebcentralmarket.com or just type in the name.
H.E.B. used to carry some of the Usinger of Milwaukee products like teawurst,bologna,etc. but haven't seen any lately at my store.
They even make fresh sushi at H.E.B.,right in the store.Going to buy me some for Thanksgiving dinner as an appetizer.

Boar's Head cold cuts are great. Here in South Florida we have the full line of Boar's Head products available at the local Publix supermarkets. We also find that the Publix brand of cold cuts are comparably good, too. As far as Dietz & Watson does, we bought some of their cuts at a local Winn Dixie a few years back and had to throw them away. They weren't spoiled, we just didn't like them at all. It just goes to show that people really are different! Heck, I prefer the balogna and hot dogs made with pork and chicken/turkey in them over the all beef ones! Oh man, now I've got to throw a couple Ball Parks in the pot for lunch!

....all the Boar's Head roast beef we've ever bought was beautifully rare and delicious. We've never seen it any other way.

Thanks all for the Boars Head suggestions! I have liked everything I have treid that Boars Head makes.

Anyone tried the Boars Head prime rib? I saw it at Kroger's and almost bought some. Maybe not a cold cut cause I think your suppesed to heat it.
