I"m going to Mt. Home, ID for business and would love to discover some great local cusine. I believe I'm going to be 30 minutes from Boise. All recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Boise has a huge Basque Population. They came to the US from Southern France and Northern Spain to work as sheepherders. Gernika in Downtown Boise is a Basque Pub and Eatery. Go there to enjoy basque appetizers and sandwiches and wash them down with a good local microbrew or too. There used to be a good Basque restaurant called Onati but they are no longer in business. I used to stop there on my road trips while I was living in Seattle. I heard another Basque Restaurant called Epi's opened up in Meridian, a suburb just outside of Boise, I've never been there, but there have been very favorable reviews on the internet. If you do go, perhaps you may want to let us know how it is and maybe write up a review.

Thanks for the tips. I stopped by for lunch at the Gernika Basque Pub for the Chorizo Sandwich with the Basque potato salad, which was a Basque sausage on a french roll, with a leafy green and pickle spear- Pretty good and cozy little place- and topped lunch off with some rice pudding, everything was very reasonably priced- bonus! Thanks

I was in Boise a few months ago and I apologize as I stopped at Walmart and while I was there, I bought two hot dogs topped with chile, onions and mustard. I had a conference call and I had to stop to insure reception on the cell phone. While dialed in, I walked into Walmart, bought two dogs and they were great. Probably because I was hungry and bored with the required call. By the way, I drove from Boise north along the Salmon River and it was one of the most beautiful drives I have ever made. I thought I had seen white water???????? I saw white water there. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Just stopped in Boise and went to the Basque Block for lunch. Tried Gernika: ugh. However, there are a couple other promising places, including the Basque Market. Boise needs more exploring, though. Here's my full report with lots of pics: extramsg.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=37 And here's a pic of a snack from the Basque Market:
