Bon Bon or Buckeye or ????

Todays Feature restaurant HANK'S in Tulsa OK features great photos of burgers from that stand and ONE PHOTO of what Michael describes as a Bon Bon. It is a chocolate candy with a peanut butter filling. Knowing that regional use of words for certain items vary from place to place, I don't dispute the use of Bon Bon as a descriptor. In this area the term for the candy in the photo is Buckeye. Peanutbutter-based filling dipped in chocolate and real common in the Christmas Candy time period. My experience with Bon Bons is limited to a long time ago, in a land far far away, enjoying spoon-sized ice cream pieces dunked in hard-shell chocolate coating and boxed 6 or 7 to a box then sold at the refreshment counter at the movie house. Am I thinking straight here? Are Bon Bons and Buckeyes one and the same item?

Mr. Mayor, The Buckeyes found here in the Buckeye State are, as yoou described, chocolate-covered peanut butter candies, but they're shaped like buckeyes and have an opening in the chocolate for the peanut butter "eye" to show. Personally, I can't stand the things, but don't tell anyone around here.

I especially don't like the ones from Anthony Thomas but those are the ones I usually get as they come in a scarlet and grey box. I like Reese cups but for some reason the peanut butter chocolate combo just doesn't work for me in the buckeye form.

I, too, like the Reeses things. Buckeyes, however, I just don't get. By the way, I don't care much for anything from Anthony Thomas.

The only Buckeyes I had was home-made by a friend of mine from Ohio, who now lives in the DC Area. He brought them to my Christmas party. As a Penn Stater, I was reluctant to even bring them in my house, but in the end, I enjoyed them very much.

I'm still looking at the sandwich with 4 quarter pound burgers and wondering how many people actually eat a pound of hamburger in one meal?

Neb-Guy Despite my reputation I don't think I would try it. If I were really hungry and not planning to leave town for awhile after the meal I might do the 1/2 pounder (2 patties) Cheese, Tomato, and Grilled Onions Hold everything else. One of my Daughters-in-law does a nice job on home-made Buckeyes dipped in dark chocolate. They are a nice treat at Christmas...and they have as Michael Hoffman describes, an open end(eye) for the peanut filling to show.

Mr. Mayor: throw some mustard on mine, leave room for a beer or 2 and now we're talking.
