MADISON — The Nutmeg State's first couple of food, Jane and Michael Stern, rolls into R.J. Julia Booksellers, 768 Boston Post Road, at 7 tonight with their latest, "Two for the Road: Our Love Affair With American Food," Houghton Mifflin, $24.

"Two for the Road" tells some of the never-before-told stories of their road trips in search of the sweetest blueberry pies or tangiest BBQ pork sandwiches, and how the couple of "Roadfood" fame survived each other while often eating 12, yes 12, meals a day. They say they had trouble just making it out of Connecticut, and note that pigs, large crabs, cows and Jesus pictures on the menu are indicators of a good roadside joint.

The event is free, but seating is limited; call (203) 245-3959.
