This morning, in 14 degree weather and just before the anticipated snowstorm started, I washed my truck at the self-serve car-wash in Corydon,IN. It was almost totally white with the 'Brine' salt from the roads, so I skidded around on the built up ice in the wash bay and did the job. It looks pretty good now. This afternoon I snoozed, took the trashcans up to the road for tomorrow's pickup, and worked on my lesson plan for my class Wed. nite.

All in all not a bad day.

Cleaned my house, home schooled my kids, shopped on Amazon and then made art! I have to carve out time to do that. Keeps me sane!

Now off to the kitchen to make meatloaf.....you can come cut up these onions for me if you are really bored.

Oh and it was nearly 70 here today so I can't even complain about the weather lol

72F in Houston. Worked on about 50 emails, visited the wife, took a nap, visited the wife, cleaned the car, did some more emails and at 5:00PM, guess what? I had a cocktail or two.

Desertdog: A little far fetched but there is some truth to that.

I was in Minneapolis several years ago. The real temp was -22F. I had a heck of a time getting my rental to start. I was staying at the Courtyard I believe at the Mall of American. I let the car warm up and was freezing to death. On the way to my meeting, I passed some school children around 7:30AM. They were having a blast sliding down a snow bank. I could not believe it.

In Knoxville, school would have been out for a month.

After running all over Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island for 6 years in all seasons, imagine my stunned shock when a quarter-inch of ice shut down two interstates and the whole state from Texas to Mississippi my first winter back in Louisiana! Haven't y'all ever heard of salt?

Lobster pots still being fished, clam diggers still on the flats, commercial fishing boats come and go from the harbor daily. Just have to know how to have fun in the winter. Chow Jim

A minus 3 right now (7am CST) with a -19 wind chill, we had about 5" of snow yesterday and this morning is a beautiful sunrise over a soft blanket of snow. Best of all, the cardinals are singing! I've been in the house about a week now, too cold to venture out, but my computer keeps me from being bored.

                              Hello All,
I swept the snow off the front and side porch, then the back deck. Let the dogs out and watched
them romp in the snow as I suck down beer number 4, (I work nights so this is my happy hour.)
Then I scattered bird seed on the back deck and watch the various birds have their feast. Of course,
it is now close to 8:30 a.m. and not 1:50 a.m..
When I am bored and it is late at night, I drink, watch T.V., and between the commericals pay my
"Lord of The Rings" video games, or read or write.

One of the drawbacks of winter here. Traffic and restaurant waits get almost unbearable.

If we have a really cold and snowy winter in PA, I always re-read "The Long Winter", one of the series of Little House on the Prairie Books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Then it dosn't seem that bad. Haven't needed to read it this year so far.

I keep an unopened jigsaw puzzle for times when we're snowed in. That's also the signal for cleaning out messy drawers or closets, refilling the spice rack, sending "Hi, how are you?" cards to elderly relatives, and playing cards or board games.

If all else fails, you can have a carving contest to turn baking potatoes into Tiki gods and then brush them with melted butter or bacon grease and bake them for dinner.

Bingo Cornfed, that's why I moved. Nothing is more emancipating than going out in short sleeves in February after spending half a lifetime shoveling snow.

Salt? That's that white stuff I put in my gumbo right?

Just teasing. No, we don't do salt. We do sand, if they have trucks at the ready to spread it, but mostly on bridges. If not, we go back to bed until they figure out how to get the trucks loaded with sand and finish fighting over who's gonna have to be out of the heated cab to help spread it

My poor youngest son has never seen snow, not even a dusting. He's nine soon. He wants to see snow so badly. We had one of our 3 freezes for the next 4 years the other night and woke up to the ground and trees a bit frosty. I thought something was burning down the way he came running into my room all excited with his eyes really wide. He thought it was snow. I hated breaking it to him that it was just frost.

I just tell folks I live in the South for a reason. That reason is my blood would freeze at 40 degrees and I'd be no more!

I admit that we moved from SoCal back here to Louisville, so in a sense we chose to leave those 'warmer' winters. SoCal has the right idea for how snow should occur...based on the elevation of the mountains! It was less than an hour from our home on the desert at roughly 4000 ft to the upper slopes and ski runs at 8000 ft. It was an easy ride up to the deeper snow...play until everyone was cold or tired, or both, then zip home to lay by the pool to thaw out!
Louisville is having some colder than normal weather this week, but overall the winter has been pretty mild and already they are looking ahead for a week in the 40's when we get back from Texas!!

I'm snuggled under a blanket on my recliner with the laptop surfing the web. It's 20 outside wind chill of 8. Too darn cold for this Calif boy.

I wore short sleeves to work today.
It was 68, after a low of 22 yesterday morning.
Just how on earth am I supposed to get rid of this cold with temp flucuations like this?
But the forecast calls for 50 degree days, and 30 degree nights for the next week. That I can handle.
                                              Works for me!

75F in Houston today and I hear it is getting warmer in Knoxville. Flowers are blooming in Houston.

I would rather be in Knoxville.

This sounds good, how would you bake these if you lost power? We have an electric oven but a very cozy woodstove, hmmm...

You would strap waxed twine around them and hang them from the ceiling of the wood stove, of course.

Who doesn't get bored this time of year but there are a lot of things going on that may be on interest to many:

1: Car shows that show the newest models available. I just attended the one in Houston. It was not cheap at $10 for parking and $10 for entrance but the show was good with lots of new models and things available for your transporation.

2: Food shows. One coming up in Houston to display all restaurants in the area and their menu.

3: Gun shows. I am not sure that you are interested in this but they can be fun.

4: Boat shows. I got a dock and I got a life and I like boats. Some of you may not enjoy this but boating is fun.

This time of year, there are things to keep you entertained every weekend.

Worst comes to worst, get a movie on the tele or play with your computer.

One of the drawbacks of winter here. Traffic and restaurant waits get almost unbearable.

I remember one cold snap while I was down in the mother land, and watching the city workers fighting over which one had to ride in the back of the pick up truck and throw the sand out with a shovel.

There was something magical about a frost on the bayou, but by 8am things were back to normal.

Unfortunately the temp here just north of the mason dixon line has not made it above the freezing for the past 10 days, and not supposed to make it up there for a few days to come.

RV shows are another fun thing to do when it is really cold out. I love going to them and dreaming about when I win the lottery how my Motor Home is going to look, and where I want the fireplace to be.

But Spring is just around the corner, NASCAR starts this weekend. Pitchers and Catchers start reporting to spring training next week.

Thank Goodness I am headed down to MB on Wednesday.
