Driving home this morning from the land of water slides and spinning jet boats, we stopped at Johnson's Sausage Shoppe in Rio to procure some brats for the taste-off. I mentioned last year's contest to the proprietor and she had nothing good to say about the current generation of Schwai's. I may have to set up a one-on-one grudge match on September 5 to settle this matter. I can almost smell the fat dripping on the charcoal already as the trash talking has begun.

Here's a couple of pics of Tom Schwai. Now if I was going to imagine what a sausage master looks like, he would look like Tom. He also has spent years raising money for Threshold Inc., which assists developmentally disabled adults and children in Washington County.

Me! We went on a Green County run today. Got some Cajun brats to cook up, and Mike got some Stumpf's Hot Olive brats.

Davydd Where? When? What time? How many award winning brats should one bring? I'll PM you the pertinent details. Jim P.S. Bobbi & I loved the Minnesota State Fair today. Get rid of the politicians (all varieties), labor unions, and purple #4 jerseys and it would have been perfect.

OK, Nancy, my wife, and I are in. Our brats will come from Mackenthun's in St. Bonifacius, MN. Even BuddyRoadhouse despite his Minnesota venturing hasn't tried them.

I asked Bobbi if you needed some genuine made in Oak Creek Sheboygan style semmel rolls or some seeded Italian sausage rolls for the brats? Perhaps you have this taken care of. If not, tell me how many you need. X1 already mentioned I'm bringing some Hossely's Stump's Hot Olive brats from New Glarus. I've had them before. They are salty. They are hot.

A couple dozen brat buns will be appreciated. We are providing a few varieties of brats & buns, beans, slaw, potato salad, soft drinks & beer. Any additions will be welcome. Oh yeah, desserts will be provided, too.

We're in too (John & Anita). We'll bring some chicken & feta, philly cheesesteak and steak, bleu cheese & mushroom brats (the latter is not always available but we're hoping it will be).

abe_f, You know that you don't dare bring desserts into the Pie Diva's domain. And we thought we'd be beaten if we didn't make the German Potato Salad again. You are welcome to bring U.S.A. potato salad. It would be the patriotic thing to do. Jim

The Klement's Sausage Company must have found out about the Brat Challenge and are trying to influence the voting. They've dispatched their racing sausages to Sendik's Fine Foods (18985 W. Capitol Drive) for Meat & Greet photo op on Sunday. They'll be there from 11:00 to 2:00, just in time for you to make it to the Brat Challenge.

Hmm, maybe fruit kabobs or something.....

Abe, if there's any chance you could bring some of those garlic sausages you brought last year it'd be much appreciated, but please don't go to any trouble. They looked very good but I missed the opportunity to taste one. Thanks! Brad

They looked very good but I missed the opportunity to taste one. Thanks! Brad I think that can be arranged. They're closed on Saturdays, but it will get me out of bed tomorrow morning. Hey Jim, could you share the headcount so I have a vague idea of how much of whatever I make I need to bring? Thanks! ETA: Ok, I'm making chocolate-dipped candied bacon. Something to nosh on in between rounds of brats!
