this custard sauce, you're talking about using it as a topping? right? I always have Bourbon on hand. So, with the help of some on-line searching, I now use this bourbon sauce to top my bread pudding. Which reminds me, now that it's fall, there are so many comfot foods to make! Bourbon Sauce: 1 cup granulated sugar 6 tablespoons butter, melted 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 tablespoon (or more!) Bourbon 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 tablespoon white corn syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla In a sauce pan mix all ingredients. Bring to a boil for 1 minute. Let it warm, the pour over the bread pices you're serving and let it set in for a minute before serving. Don't put sauce on pieces you're not using, as the bread pudding will absorb it and get too soggy.
