Ham, egg and cheese with fried onions at White Hut in West Springfield, Massachusetts is pretty much the standard others can be judged against in the basic breakfast sandwich category.

quote:Originally posted by hatteras04 The White Castle's here have breakfast sandwiches on wheat toast with a real fried egg. They also have the ones on the little buns but the ones on toast are much better. Last week I tried Wendy's new breakfast for the first time. I don't think this is available nationwide yet. They have something called a frescuit which I think is supposed to be a cross between the bread they use on their frescata sandiwches and a biscuit. It looked good but the biscuit thingy had a sweet taste to it that I didn't really care for. They also have regular biscuits that I did not try and they have bigger sandwiches on Kaiser rolls. I'll try again to see if I like the regular biscuits better. If they still have that sweet taste then I will stick with WC or McDonald's for the plain sausage sandwich on a regular bun. i've been wondering when Wendy's would get in the "Breakfast Derby"

I have discovered a new breakfast sandwhich which I like very well; the Hamlet from BK. It's only $1 and is on a soft seeded bun with ham, egg, and cheese. Quite tasty (at least for me).

I totally agree with those who stated that the Hardee's biscuits were the best by a fast food place. By the way this is my first post. So far I love this site. And the Hamlet doesn not have cheese it just ham egg and a honey mustard sauce.

Does McDonald's make their biscuits from scratch? They seem to imply that on their billboards around here?

I really like the pork chop biscuit from Hardee's and we have several small places that do a pork tenderloin biscuit I like occasionally. A few years ago I really got into country Ham biscuits with double ham but those will really pack on the pounds after a while. Another favorite was to get a steak biscuit with a just a little gravy (about a tablespoon)on it from one of the smaller places.

quote: If they do come in frozen then McDonald's is very close to false advertising in our area. We have several billboards which has a picture of several McDonalds employees posed with rolling pins, flour bags and pitchers of milk with a caption of "We've got the best biscuit makers in the tri-cities" paraphrasing slightly and another large caption proclaiming "Every batch made from scratch"

But then by that definition, everything is made from scratch at some point. For the biscuits at McD's it is a company named Bama. http://www.bama.com/default.aspx?page=20013&c=Hide

According to his brother they have a designated biscuit maker who come in at 4am and makes the biscuits completely from scratch. It's apparently different in other parts of the country (I'm in Tennessee) Here's a quote from one of the local biscuit makers. "Only below the Mason Dixon Line does McDonald’s make biscuits from scratch," he said. "In the south it is biscuits and gravy for breakfast. I’m not what I used to be at the age of 70, but I take a lot of pride in my work."
