nicolem- Oh my God! I have been looking for those puffs for years! My Grandma used to buy those every new year's eve. Me and her were would devour the whole box. They were kind of hard to find the rest of the year, but if we found them off season she would buy them and make them for lunch for us. I'm not sure who made them, does anybody know? I always wondered if you can make them from frozen puff pastry, rolled thin and top them with the powdered popcorn topppings(sour cream and onion, cheese). I'll have to give it a try and get back to you.

My husband and I remember them- we used to eat them quite a bit but everyone else I ask does not remember them. Nicolem

nicolem- I know how you feel! No one else seems to remember them. The last time I saw them I was probably 13 or 14 so it was probably the mid 90's. I wish I could remember who made them. If I'm not mistaken I think they also made a small package of assorted appetizers with pigs in a blanket, potato puffs, some swirly pastry things and I'm not sure what else. There were only like five of the pigs in a blanket in the box and I remember fighting with my brother over them.

I can't remember who they were made by (think Tom's) but I seem to recall them being called 'Rock N Roll Planks' - it was two thin, crispy gingerbread cookies that sort of flaked in layers and they were scalloped around the edges and iced in a hot pink icing. They came two per a glassine sleeve. Instant chicken supreme with 'sherry' - it was aweful but good. It was one of the few things my paternal grandmother could cook that I would eat (she wasn't much of a cook). It had these dried pieces of chicken, dried peas and carrots with a sauce mis and noodles. And the 'special' was that it came with a package of 'sherry' you could add if you wanted to get sophisticated or booze it up. I have seen these from time to time so I think they are still in production, just hard to find but I LOVED the great big Sour Charms pops. Especially cherry and green apple. Jolly Rancher 'sticks' - thin so you could break off pieces. Giant Sweet Tarts - not the chewy or gummy type.

Thanks for the great memories, everyone! I craved O'Grady's Au Gratin chips thirty years ago when pregnant with my daughter. I remember back in the 50's and early 60's, there were wonderful penny candy jars at the Ben Franklin store. The store even had a wood planked floor that would creak like the Dickins. I loved the bubble gum that was turquoise blue with a sugar crystal coating. They were called "sputniks".

I wish Nabisco didn't change the texture and recipe for Sugar Wafers. They are NOT the same. They were the ultimate cookie.

My husband had once told me about some soap that grew fuzz on it when he was a kid. I thought it was just mold - lol - I thought he was crazy. He really wasn't hallucinating! Now I have to search it out to see if I can surprise him....maybe someone on ebay has it. It's probably a rare collectible with my luck. (plus I have to hope he doesn't see this post! ) Welcome to Roadfood. Look forward to hearing about your experiences and adventures! Sue

Kraft Reduced Calorie French Dressing, circa 1990. It was not sold in Metro NYC; I used to buy it in NE Maryland and Pennsylvania IGA supermarkets. A really flavorful bottled dressing. After it disappeared, I wrote to Kraft. They replied that it was discontinued due to low sales.

quote:Originally posted by lynndunham I agree with the Noodles Romanoff. I also really miss a cookie from the 50's - not sure how long they were around, but they were a cookie covered with a mound of marshmallow with a spoonful of jelly inside. The whole thing was dipped in chocolate. Can't remember the name - can anyone help me with this? You still get these here and they are called "Wagon Wheels". Although they seem to have discontinued my favourite variety of them, the toffee filled ones! Bounty Bars and Marathons (Snickers as they are now known) are also still available here! The things I really miss though are: Creamola Foam Toffee Yo Yo Biscuits Lucky Charms cereal Twix Icecreams Concentrated orange squash (not sure who made it) Toffee Wagon Wheel Biscuits Banana milkshake syrup- I know its still around but I cannot find it.

Quisp cereal for me. It came back for a couple of months & I could get it at Shaw's in Nashua, NH...but no more. I heard that you could get it online...but I imagine that someone just found a few pallets of it in an old warehouse somewhere & was trying to sell it.

I have been remembering what I think was an instant beef stroganoff from that time period. Seems like it had freeze dried beef, noodles and sauce packet. It was in a strange shaped box. I loved that stuff! The chicken supreme sounds familiar, from the same era. One item I wished would be brought back, has, and that is Pepperidge Farm Four Cheese sticks. Only they're called 'Artisan Cheese' sticks now. I am a very happy camper! I was getting tired of Pepperidge Farm Parmesan Goldfish, which is all I've been snacking on since Nabisco discontinued Swiss Cheese and Bacon Thins crackers and I've been boycotting them :)
