Bristol Race and Food City

I was at Food City. I was checking out and the manager said that since I was a regular customer, would I like free tickets to the Bristol 500 sponsered by Food City. Of course I did since a contender is Trevor Bayne from Knoxville who won the Daytona. I walked out with tickets worth $186.00. Iwanago and I are leaving early Sunday morning. We cannot decide on which car to drive, the Caddy or the Miata. Probably the Caddy. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Paul, did he tell you that you must root for Robbie Gordon since Food City will be on his quarter panels?

jman Paul, did he tell you that you must root for Robbie Gordon since Food City will be on his quarter panels? I am not exactly a fan of Robby Gordon although Iwanago is an extreme fan of Jeff Gordon. She will wear her leather jacket from Jeff Gordon racing indicating his four championships. I will definately be rooting for Trevor Bayne. I am not looking forward to the traffic at Bristol because of the potential 160,000 fans. I am leaving Knoxville at 7:00AM and I hope my handi sticker will allow me better parking. If any of you have ever been to Bristol, the walk to the track is not pleasant. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Trevor has a excellent chance at a great driving career. With a wait and see what the packs doing and with a great crew chief planing his moves I can see him going far in this sport. That awsome Paul and have a good trip and safe drive with your wife. Mike

Bristol is the only place I've ever seen a live Nascar race. My wife and I became fans when we lived in Kingsport, TN a few years back and friends had a line on a few tickets for the spring race which were in great demand. It was quite an experience to say the least. You certainly right about the walk, we had to park about a mile away in a field by the fire station. Hope you have fun!

Iwanago and I are getting up early for the drive to Bristol tomorrow morning. I have been on the Bristol grounds many times for the NHRA races but only once for the Bristol NASCAR race and that was in 1962. It has grown many times since Bruton Smith bought it. Now it has seating for better than 160,000 fans. I hope their food vendors are good. They always are for the NHRA races. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

The Bristol race is probably the one NASCAR race I would definitely like to see in person. I'm pretty sure the Pixar Disney movie Cars had to be inspired by that track. Cars is my favorite watch with the grandsons movie. I've watched it countless times but mostly just the beginning until pass out or attention diversion sets in.

Short track racing is the best because it requires more driving skills and a good pit crew. That's where the heart of NASCAR started beating!

Roz and i were at the race and it was incrediabily loud. We left after about 200 laps and got a shuttle back to the car. We had to park about two miles away at a rate of $25.00. Busch won and we personally do not like him. We were for Trevor Bayne, Earnhardt or Gordon. I got a sunburn and the food was something south of awful. Roz wanted a hot dog and stopped at a Pilot where she could get one with the toppings she wanted about $5.00 cheaper. Go figure. I was glad we were there and got to experience the huge track with a huge crowd and you could see all of it but I am glad we are home. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Paul I didn't want to say anything to spoil your good time but when my wife and went to the spring race a few years ago I thought it was one of the longest days of my life. I was also ready to go after about 200 laps but since we rode with someone else we had to stay until the end. The food and beverage was very overpriced and low quality. I said many times that the only way I would go back would be if I had suite tickets and transportation to and from the front gate. I also heard there was an incredible amount of empty seats. Probably the economy was the main reason for that.
