Bruised Ginger

I wanted to try a new recipe...Apple Wine... it calls for "bruised ginger." I have no idea what this is, I've looked for it in stores, but cannot find it. Does anyone know what I should be looking for? Also, any tips on making the wine would be appreciated...I've never tried to make wine before. Thank you
