DetectDave The local folks might have to help me out here as my memory is fading. I was down for 2 weeks of undercover training at FLETC many moons ago and the instructors took us out to a place way back in the woods along a big creek or river that served fish, oysters and fried lobster. I can't remember the name or where it was but man did we put on the feedbag. Seems like it was about a 30 minute drive or so way back in the woods. The Buccaneer Club has already been named as the likely source of DetectDave's memory but I will add that forty plus years ago when I first went there, it operated like a speakeasy. You knocked on a locked door and they looked you over through a peep hole before letting you in, and wirh reason. IIRC they operated in violation of the local liquour rules at that time. The Buccaneer was still a good place to eat fresh southern fried seafood last time we visited several years ago.

Southern Soul burned. It's operating out of a temporary location at a Coast Guard Facility but rebuilding.

I ate at Southern Soul today. Southern Soul is operating out of the snack bar area at the Coast Guard station on East Beach on St. Simons Island (which is 10 minutes from Brunswick). The BBQ today was some of the best BBQ I have ever eaten. Since my first post on the previous page in October 2009, Southern Sould has perfected its BBQ. Damn good BBQ. Paul

Southern Soul has been getting a lot of pub since the fire being featured on DDD & Pit Masters. They do have a catering trailer set up in front of the construction @ Their old site & are serving lunch @ Ziggy's. Indigo is new on the scene in downtown brunswick with an eclectic mix of island inspired food. Just had a singapore sub with roasted pork, a hoison orange glaze, napa slaw, cillantro, radishes & a sri racha, lime aioli thta was great. The jerk fish tostatdos are good as is the Charleston saute, shrimp, peppers, country ham, tomatoes & okra over grits.
