Bruster's Real Ice Cream/Andy's Frozen Custard

For those of you who haven't ever heard of Bruster's Real Ice Cream before you're not alone! I had never got the pleasure of trying it until I made my wonderful move to Florida! It was a small franchise that was open in 1989 in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania by a guy named Bruce Reed. They never deep freeze their Ice Cream they only make what they need for the day. They have over 140 recipes that they make it through out the year on a daily basis though they have roughly 24 flavors at a time. They have all kinds of candies, cookies, and other sweets to put in with you Ice Cream.
I'm used to Andy's Frozen Custard which is what we had back home in Missouri! It was started in 1986 in Osage Beach, Missouri by John and Carol Kuntz and quickly took Springfield Missouri by storm and that became the home store for Andy's it was named after there son who worked very long hours there perfecting the business and now has turned into a small franchise between Missouri, Texas, Illinois, and Arkansas. They offer all sorts of flavors and variations that a very well liked. So if you haven't ever had Bruster's then maybe you've had Andy's or maybe you've had both. Here's Andy's Menu   and here's Bruster's Menu for those who are curious

So I'm curious on what everyone's favorite Ice Cream flavor or combinations that they like to get from Bruster's, Andy's, or any other Ice Cream Parlor?

I used to drive by the original Bruster's location in Bridgewater a couple times a week back in my softball playing days and would often stop in after the games.  They quickly expanded and at one time, they had locations all over Western Pennsylvania.  About three years ago, I noticed that several of the stores closed all of a sudden, but fortunately, the one in my hometown is still there.

My favorite flavor is the chocolate raspberry truffle, which they have year round.  As much as I like it, I probably haven't been there is six months, which is around the time I discovered that my local grocery store now carries Graeter's ice cream!

They have closed several down but they have also now opened some with Nathans Hot Dogs attached with it does the original have a Nathans or any of them around you? The one that I'm by doesn't have a Nathans.

O and my favorite would have to be the tuxedo strawberry that they have year round.

    Lindalou21-
Yes, most of the ones around here also have a Nathan's Hot Dogs attached, although I have never tried a hot dog there.  The Bruster's chocolate raspberry truffle is the closest I can find to my favorite Graeter's flavor, black raspberry chip.

I've been going to Bruster's in Bridgewater for YEARS!!  MH and I drove by several times last week, but unfortunately never had time to stop.  I like their black cherry, butter pecan, and a bunch of others!  MH sticks to his plain vanilla which he says is great.  When my parents were still living in Rochester we would go there at least once a week.

I deliver around there. The Reed's own Jerry's Curb Service next door too. Their "corporate headquarters" is a few blocks away in a converted house. 730 Mulberry St.

Also in Bridgewater is where they make the dogs and chili for Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe. Smelled so good in there! It's just a plain cinder block building. No signs or anything.

Thank you all for you're input on this! I'm all about food and learning how people like there food or in this case ice cream!

Yeah, Lisa, as soon as I saw that screenname, I knew right away he was a fellow yinzer, without ever having to see where he/she was from.  I know so many people who pronounce it that way.

Are they selling it at Giant Iggle (Stillerz reference) or is another store?  What size and how much?

I used your RF link to find the Graeter's website and found a store pretty close to me.

I bought a pint of Black Raspberry Chocolate chip for $4.99.  Kind of expensive, but I've been wanting to try Graeter's for years and jumped at the chance.  Excellent ice cream.

They sell Graeter's at the Giant Eagles here in Ohio, and I've seen it at the store in Rochester, Pa.

It is at my local Giant Iggle!  The black raspberry chip always seems to be sold out first.  I agree that at $4.99 a pint, it is expensive, but I will gladly pay for something of this quality.

The guy who started Bruster's originally got a Handel's franchise.  He got their manuals and recipes and copied them.  Then he said "never mind" and refused to pay Handel's.   In addition to being a crook, he never managed to make ice cream as good as Handel's.   Maybe he thought he could save even more money by cutting costs on ingredients and manufacturing.  If this guy lies, cheats and steals to get started, what will he do to consumers?
