Bubbleroom! Thu, 01/29/09 3:28 PM (permalink)
Hello all... there is a place near sanabel/Captiva florida called The Bubbleroom, their food is awesome and their desserts (especially cakes) are to die for. I wanted to submit this place but unfortunately didn't have any photos and I live in New York so I probably wont make it back down to florida for a while.

Their website is below... if anyone is in that area and wants to try it and submit this is one restaurant I do not think anyone traveling through the area would want to miss!

havn't been there for a few years. was a cool place. the hurricane 4 years or so ago really wiped it out. we were on sanibel the next year but it wasn't open. glad to see its back. sanibel is a great place to go to eat. many fine places.

Having spent lots of time on Sanibel and Captiva, I am very familiar with the Bubble Room.  I am actually going to be in that area at the end of February.  Needless to say, I was planning on visiting this place and taking some photos.

We were on Captiva last Memorial Day Weekend ('08). We didn't eat at the Bubbleroom but did stop in for an after dinner drink. While at the bar, we saw several dessert portions being served. I can't attest to the quality, but the size of the portions was huge, easily shared by at least two people.

The rest of the weekend's food was hit or miss, as I reported at...

If  the  Bubbleroom  on  Sanibal is anything like the one that used to be in Orlando, it will certainly be a great place to take pictures.  However, the food is not that great; overpriced and not exciting.

Opt for a table where you can take lots of pictures and just order a huge dessert.

I am surprised to hear it has more than one location... it seemed to unique to be duplicated.

Needless to say it has been a while so I hope it is still there.

I think I can handle that!

I also had no idea there was more than one.  Is the one on Captiva the original?  It has been there since I started going to the area and that was in the 1970s.

I do not know which one was first; the one in Orlando or the one on Captiva.  The one in Orlando has been out of business for about  7 or 8 years,

It was fun to go there once and just look at everything they had on the walls and on the ceiling; plus a train going around the ceiling.  The waiters weredecked out in sort of boy scout uniforms  and very friendly.  The desserts were huge!

I've never been there but we did spend a week with my parents in Sanibel a couple of years ago.  They are regualrs on the island and they assured us that it is not really that great for dinner and the best move is just to go get some cake to bring home.  We bought an entire orange crunch cake for the week.  This thing was enormous.  And it had to be one of the best cakes I have ever had.  Multiple layers of white cake with thick orange icing and in between each layer is the crunch which is similar to a strudel topping.  Tasted like brown sugar, nuts, flour, butter.  It was really a great combination.  The one cake was more than enough to last the whole week for a big group.

A picture of a slice of their Orange Crunch Cake is on their website.  Click on Bubble Food, and then Bubble Desserts.  Looks yummy!
