Buddy's BBQ in Knoxville, TN Wed, 06/29/11 8:30 AM (permalink)
I have never been a big fan of Buddy's but I have found a few things that I really enjoy.  I buy about a five pound pork butt to go.  It is mostly black or dark brown on the exterior and very very tasty.  Their chicken is very good and their hushpuppies are very good.  It is a chain of about a dozen restaurants.  Incidentally, their sauce both hot and mild is very good.  I am not claiming that the BBQ place is among the best but those items I mentioned is very good.

I use their butt in my BBQ baked beans with onions, garlic, syrup, BBQ sauce and I use it in my mixed greens with jalapeno, onions, garlic and some other spices.

Yeah, nothing earthshaking about Buddy's, but it is decent BBQ, and I always liked stopping in there when I lived in Oak Ridge for a quick pulled pork sandwich.

Can't remember for sure but does Buddy's pre sauce the pulled pork? seems like that's why I didn't care for the place a few years ago.

You can order Buddy's anyway you like but please remember in my post that I suggested getting their five pound pork butt, chicken and hushpuppies.  That is what I buy.  The pork butt at around five punds come wrapped in alumninim wrapper with lotsa of sauce in a separate container.  It is nicely brown/black from being in the smoker.  You can get what you want.  I only indicated what I personally liked.

I was just talking about the standard pork sandwich. When we first moved to Tennessee in the mid-90's we ran across Buddy's in Sevierville or Pigeon Forge or it may have been fairly near the UT campus. I either didn't realize you could order it without the sauce but I seem to remember the pork being dished up pre sauced which I have never cared for.
I really like your idea about buying the entire pork butt. That's a unique way to sell it. I don't know if any of the BBQ places around here would sell you a complete pork butt.

Ces1948:  Buddy's sells the pork butt totally and that is the best way to get it.  It his hot, moist, tender, and slightly burn't on the edges.  That is one of the few things I like about Buddy's

Is that something you can just walk in and order or do you set it up in advance?

It is always been available when I walk in.  They get it out of something and it is always hot and fresh.  They give you about a quart of BBQ.  It smells so great in your car that I can barely keep from having a sample.  Believe me, it smells like very good smoked Q.
