Buffetbuster is on the road!

Buffetbuster, cousin John and camera are eating their way in green chile cheeseburgers through New Mexico! They arrived at our ranch about 11:00 AM today. Following a tour of the ranch, we presented them a small box of local food products. Then we drove into Carrizozo destined for the Outpost Bar and Grill for their renowned green chile cheeseburger..... We then did a tour of Carrizozo mixed with a bit of history. They departed at 1:00 pm. We enjoyed two great hours together! We can all look forward to a full roadfood trip report upon their return home.

I do believe that BB and Johnny have caught the true spirit of the Roadfood Website.  I can think of no better way to experience food in a "New" area, than to meet up with some locals who know the 'Highs' and also the 'lows' of a regions offerings and who can put the roadfood experience into a 'historical Big Picture'!!

Rouxdog, Welcome to the "We've Hosted BB Group"!!

A big thanks to rouxdog for his hospitality yesterday.  He and his wife Nancy went above and beyond in making us Yankees feel welcome in Carrizozo.  And the green chile cheeseburger at The Outpost received two thumbs up.  While I am writing this, I am sipping the excellent raspberry cider we were given.  Photos to follow in my trip report next week.

Hope you guys get to the Bob Cat Bite.  Like to hear how the two compare in your opinions.

If you go on chilifire.com and do a search for the Outpost you can read all about this place and their burger.  Frommer's is mentioned in a quote saying someone (they don't say who) has rated the Outpost's version as the best green chili cheeseburger in NM. Yet, in the article they don't pay much homage to the cheese used on the burger.

All I know is that the cheese they used at the Bob Cat Bite was wonderful! Part of a package that made it the best burger I've ever had.

Baah Ben, Bob Cat Bite is "up north". We southern New Mexicans don't talk about them! Many of them are natives complaining about Gringo's taking away their Spanish Land grants, mal-adjusted folks or arrived under the cover of the "federal witness program". Please notice I said "many", NOT ALL. All in fun!

I briefly spoke with Buffetbuster yesterday. He happened to be at the UFO Museum in Roswell. He mentioned  that Rouxdog was a wonderful, gracious host and an all around great guy. I had to express my disgust that he and cousin Johnny are spending an entire week in one of my favorite roadfood states while I'm stuck in Rhode Island with egg whites and soy milk...I asked him to send me some Blue Corn Carne Adovada Enchiladas by osmosis .

Here's a photo of Buffetbuster from a previous thread getting into the spirit of things for his trip down to New Mexico!

WJ, you are correct, ole BB arrived wearing that garb! Before we went into town I convinced him to change into his customary shorts and T-shirt. A terrific two hours we shared! He and John are "good people"!
WJ, I feel your pain concerning a New Mexico "food fix". E-mail me, relief is a few clicks away.

I received a celebratory phone call last night from buffetbuster, as our beloved Penguins created the opportunity to break our collective hearts on Friday night.

He is making his way through all the finer Roadfood delights of New Mexico - and still has quite a few days to go.  Unfortunately, he was bummed to have to tell me that - despite best efforts on the part of both he and Cousin Johnny - plans to stop here were thwarted by time.  Seriously (I am not making this up)....I had to look it up to see it for myself!

    Safe travels, Gringo!

New Mexico is one of the berst places for green chiles and red chiles.  Southern New Mexico is the mecca for that.  I know because I have been there many times.  Another thing that many of you may not know is New Mexico is one of the top producers of pecans in the USA if not the top.

It was a bitter pill to swallow to miss out on the photo op in a place called Pie Town.  But, had we made the detour, I would have missed most, if not all, of the hockey game last night.  How in the world does a town get called Pie Town in the first place?

Hola  Buffetbuster...  Pie Town?  Has your name written all over it!  lol.  Hopefully you can make a pit stop on the way back through.   I'm really looking forward to seeing your trip report, the suspense on the green chili cheeseburger is killing me.

Pie Town has a Pie Festival every September.  I believe it is the weekend of the 12th this year.  I have been thinking about going as I want to look at land in that area.  New Mexico is one of my favorite places and I try to get out there every year.  Enjoy!

I'm sitting at the airport waiting for my flight home.  Johnny left yesterday.  What a wonderful vacation this was.  So much great food, beautiful scenery and incredibly nice people, with rouxdog at the top of the list.  There will be a trip report, which will include a photo of me in a hairnet, as if anyone actually needed to see that.

One other thing.....   Johnny and I loved one restaurant out here so much, we went back a second time and strongly considered going back once more.  We both have decided this place is our #1 Roadfood place of all time!!!

Oh, and blinky193......  Get back to work!

    Now would I do that?

I can't post any photos from here.  Tomorrow I will start a thread with some photos, because this place deserves it!
