you know, I'll be 31 this summer and I still LOVE to watch Bugs Bunny cartoons. It was my favorite cartoon show every Saturday morning! I have so many favorites: The barber of Seville, The Big Snooze, Gorilla my Dreams. Oh I was so sad when Mel Blanc died. I once saw a poster where the characters are standing very somber around his tombstone and the bottom it read "Voiceless". My husband bought me one of the sets but it was the third volume, I'm still waiting for the 2nd and 1st!!

Actually it was "Speechless" (the print). Mel Blanc is a hero of alot of generations. He was a great entertainer, even if it was only his voice. Still greatly missed here. If you get a chance, rent or buy the Looney Tunes Spotlight Collection. Great flashbacks!

Remember that was my very first eBay purchase ever? I still haven't gotten it framed, but by god I own it!

Beth.. Yup, I remember you buying it... Only reason I remembered the title of the picture. Still to this day when I see it, I get a tear in my eye looking at the cartoon characters sadend by the loss. Pretty much a reflection of every Looney Tune fan out there..

A beautiful and very expressive cartoon. Mr. Blanc got his start in Portland, Oregon radio and is still fondly remembered by old-timers for his wacky voices and funny routines. He was a national treasure and I still miss him.

My favorite was when he conducted the orchestra and made the opera singer hold the note while he turned different colors.

Saturday morning? I'm old enough to remember them at the Saturday afternoon movie matinees at our local theater.

I had never seen that before, and absolutely love it.
I did have a little wavering when looking at that print.
                          Gave me the goose bumps.
I did save it in my files.

Most of the Loony Tune cartoons are now available on DVD. I own the first set and plan on buying the rest. It's great to watch my kids see these for the first time. They love them!

I'm only 27, but they played these on TV (ABC, I believe) until about 8 or 9 years ago and they were my favorite cartoons. I was so disappointed when I found out they don't play them anymore on TV and they've been replaced with complete garbage on Saturday morning.

I'm glad they're on DVD now, though, because I always noticed a distinct difference between the early and later episodes, in terms of quality of animation and script. Now that they're on DVD, I'll be able to watch the episodes and figure out what could have caused that change- director, writer, animators; maybe it was just the evolution (or devolution) of the show, but it would be interesting to find out. I always thought Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies were far superior to anything Hanna-Barbera did, and those later episodes were very Hanna-Barbera-esque, like they dumbed them down to compete with them.

Hey there daughter dearest. The really sad part about those Loony Tunes cartoons you saw on ABC in the 80s and 90s is that they were already de-violenced. The network censors kow-towed to the shrill voices of the hand wringing politically correct yahoos who felt that Daffy Duck's bill being rearranged by Elmer Fudd's shotgun (hilarious no matter how many times I see it) was contributing to the corruption of their poor little "Johnny" or "Janie". Rdidiculous.

The ironic part, of course, was that all the hand wringers had seen the uncut versions when they were kids and it did them no harm.

All that violence was what made the Loony Tunes really funny. How dull if Bugs and Elmer would have been best buddies. Or if Bugs and Daffy hadn't had a jealous rivalry over who was the bigger star.

Thank goodness those old Loony Tunes are on DVD. Now you can see how these brilliant old cartoons were meant to run.

As for the deterioration in quality; anything made after the mid-fifties was pretty much crap. The studio system was falling apart and there were progressively fewer theaters showing cartoons as a lead-in to the feature presentation.

                                Yer Dad,

In cutting out the violence in those cartoons (as well as anyone smoking) and carelessly patching the pieces up, ABC managed to make those cartoons totally incomprehensible...couldn't have been any better for kids' minds than watching an anvil assault.

I'd say the Warner Bros cartoons from the mid-50s on held up better than others until they closed up shop in 1964 or so - especially Chuck Jones' work, where things were neatly pared down to their essentials. The Road Runner cartoons may have actually gotten better!

Oh man - Daffy in Bob Clampett's "The Daffy Doc" was certifiably crazy!

Still greatly missed here. If you get a chance, rent or buy the Looney Tunes Spotlight Collection. Great flashbacks!

is just awesome, the uncut, uncensored cartoons. The way they were supposed to be shown.

I remember ( I think it was 1999) that they stopped showing the speedy gonzales cartoons because there was an "uproar" about stereotyping Mexicans. That lasted until 2002, when the Mexicans uproared and demanded Speedy's return!

OH MAN I love that one.

And the Jack and the Beanstalk cartoon.

"It's a lie! It's a lie! My name is, uh uh uh.... ALOYISIUS!"

But I think my favorites are the three with Bugs, Daffy, and Elmer.

                                                    "a HAH! Pronoun trouble."

                                                    "More bweefing?" "More briefing."

Glad to see they're on the latest DVD collection - my only gripe with Speedy was all those godawful no-budget 1960s cartoons with Daffy Duck as the bad guy. Uggh.

Some friends of mine were once on a ferry in Mexico that played S. Gonzales cartoons dubbed into Spanish on a tv - wish I could hear that.

one of my favorite parts in The Big Snooze is when Bugs Bunny ties up Elmer onto the railroad tracks and warns him that the Superchief is coming. suddenly a bunch of rabbits run over elmer and all he can say is: "Biwiyons and Biwiyons(billions) of wabbits, where are they all coming from?" and cute little Bugs is typing away on a calculator swinging his butt from side to side: "from me Doc. I'm multiplying see, I'm multiplying!"
