Burger Fi!

Any other Burger Fi fans out there?
I love them green-style, wrapped in a lettuce leaf instead of a bun. And their onion rings!
And the concretes!

What do you usually get?

They brand the top of the hamburger buns. That's a little creepy to me.

Fries are fresh cut and have toppings - Salt & Vinegar, Cajun, Parm & herb, Chili + Cheese etc. Have hot dogs too.

It's very curious that BurgerFi opened on the Upper East Side of Manhattan a few months ago and not a word about it on Serious Eats/A Hamburger Today. They cover EVERY other hamburger in and around NYC.

Ooooh--did I hear the word concretes??? Yes, please!!
But of course this is not in California. Yet. And after the awful experience Al's Italian Beef recently had setting up shop in San Jose, we might never see a BurgerFi out there....

The next time the SF Giants play the Mets in NYC you should come cheer for the Giants @ Citi Field. There you will find a delightful Shake Shack concrete...with no line if it's late in the season when the Mets are being the Mets....it'll just be a very very small crowd and tickets on StubHub can easily be found that cost less than the Subway ticket or concrete if they really go Mets on the season.

    http://www.shakeshack.com/food-and-drink/

Shake Shake is where the best of two NYC Roadfood worlds... collide. A Shake Shack concrete with a Doughnut Plant mixed-in for good measure....Jelly's Last Donut!

However....there's NO trash talkin' to Mr. Met!

Whoa--just looked at the site.  Mmm mm mm...  Actually, the Giants are coming to NY in Sept to play Mets and Yankees in the same week.  Someone out here is organizing a big trip for fans, and I hear it's already sold out.  I could look into it without the big trip, though.

By Sept. the Mets should be soooo bad a luxury box will be like $.1.25 on StubHub and Mr. Met will be making the concretes in the Mets witness protection program.

There are many Giants & Dodgers fans in the NYC area and they wear their colors proudly at Citi Field. The Mets roots (and uniform colors) stem from both teams....and there are honors and tributes to both teams at Citi Field.

This is from a baseball blog and proof that everyone gets along...

Awww!!  Yes, I've heard that about the Mets color scheme.  And I'm glad we picked up one of their hottest players last year (Pagan).  He's also pretty good on the field.

The Mets and the Giants will never get along. The (STILL) New York Giants (San Francisco is merely a bad dream) win World Series. The Mets Are still searching for another Marvelous Marv Throneberry to lead them anywhere.

I wear my Red Sox gear to Yankee Stadium. Nobody ever bothers me.

Different story at football games. Especially the Jets. Nicer to walk through a prison yard than by Jets fans at a game.

All the ones in NY are in NYC or on Long Island. Unless they move farther inland, I probably won't get to one. Looks interesting though.

I had never heard of BurgerFi, but just checked their website, and it looks like there is one about 10 miles away in Leesburg, VA.  I'll have to try it.

We just had one open near us recently. To me it's a cross between Shake Shack (not as good), and Five Guys (better than Five Guys). Burgers plus a couple of "healthy" burger options, dogs, fries, onion rings, frozen custard, beer, wine...very similar to the Shack.  Burgers are seared on the grill, and wrapped ala the Shack (here's where they beat Five Guys - I hate that they squish every burger into foil). Can't touch Shake Shack for flavor, though.  Fries are skin on and really excellent. Onion rings are of the large variety - they are ok.  Frozen custard (experience so far says Shack wins here, too) in various forms - shakes, floats, concretes.  Since the closest Shake Shack is an hour away, and BurgerFi about 15 minutes, they'll get the business most of the time, but still hoping for a Shake Shack closer to us. For fast food (of the more expensive type), it's a good option.

The onion rings are like 2-3 per order.

Not only do the have to compete with Shake Shack...they have to compete with J.G. Melon...a darling of a hamburger for the UES.

CC, Burger Fi! seems like it would be in competition with Shake Shack and Burger Joint.  J.G. Melon and P.J. Clarke's are comparable to one another and doing something different from the others.

    Steak 'n Shake as well.

Competition as in when the mood strikes the UES for a hamburger...J.G. Melon will win out.

BurgerFi is sort of somewhere in the middle in concept & price point ...in a tough neighborhood for hamburgers. Blueberry Grill tried hamburgers in the same exact location...after a few other restaurants went out of business.

I still can't get over the low prices of Steak 'n Shake. Every hour is Happy Hour and they kick-in that bonus.

Plus the Coca-Coca Freestyle machine is excellent for experimental soda enjoyment!

It seems that a lot of places are converting over to the "free style" Coke machines, where you can create your own blends.  Several of the Five Guys locations near us use them now.     I enjoy a Coke Zero with the burger, and then, fill up with a Peach Fanta Zero to take to go.

One of the first things I noticed on these freestyle machines is that they are designed by Italian auto designer Pininfarina.  Nice!    Now you can have more than a "Coke and a smile".  You can have a Coke with style!
