Stopped in a Burger King for lunch today, It has been ages since I had a whopper. In fact I ordered a double and really enjoyed it.
I will admit, the bun could have been a little warmer.

I find Whoppers, a little tastier than a Wendy's and a whole lot better than MacDonalds.

Probably cuz they do not nuke it for long enough! That is what they do to melt the cheese, which is NEVER even close to melted!!

Don't you think it has that fake charbroiled taste lingers for hours in your palate? Not what it used to be.

Lindsey, nop, Jelly was making a joke. :~)

I used to love a 99c Whopper! I would combine two of them, feed the extra buns to the birds in the parking lot, and we were all happy!

I do know someone who's favorite burger is a Whopper but, I do agree that the quility has gone WAY down over the years.

If you need a Whopper fix, the best way to order it is to go in, ask them to fix it fresh and DO NOT MICROWAVE. It will be hot and if you order cheese on it, the fresh-cooked meat will melt the cheese.

At out local BK, if you don't give them these instructions, it will be so hot you can't hold it and totally devoid of taste.

Jman, good tip! I will try that. Maybe the birds won't get the whole burger next time?

Jelly LOL! If you have not read the "that being said" and "pet peeves" threads, I think you will get a kick out of them. And, your input would be helpfull!

Pd, I agree! They were once a darn good burger!

You're exactly right. That's why I demand that mine be cooked fresh.

I went to BK in December when our power was out for several days. Spent 5 bucks for the whopper and medium order of fries. Food was lukewarm, and nothing like they used to make it. Be a cold day down under before I spend another dollar there.

Vic, 99c whopper... and do not order the fries. That's my advice. A bargin for a buck! Otherwise.......... Good bird food!

I like to have a Whopper about once a year.

However, I find Burger King to be the least consistent among the major fast food chains. One time my Whopper will have 10 pickles and the next time none; this last time it was oozing mayo -- way way too much. I find most of their food to be that way. The first time I ordered a BK Stacker, it had bbq sauce on it, and the last time it was "special sauce."

They seem to do a poor job training their cooks to be consistent.

Hahaha! It was like McDonald's "special sauce" -- like thousand island dressing. I see from wiki that it's called "stacker sauce" -- The BK Stacker sandwiches consists of two, three, or four beef patties, "Stacker" Sauce (a Thousand Island Dressing variant), bacon and American cheese.

So that's what I should have received before when they used bbq sauce!

Thanks Jman for the tip about ordering fresh.
Never entered my mind that a person could do this.

Also, wasn't BK the chain that use to have a conveyor system of flame broiling? Come to think of it, I never seen that done. I need to get out more and pay attention to cooking methods.

I will admit, the bun could have been a little warmer.

I find Whoppers, a little tastier than a Wendy's and a whole lot better than MacDonalds.

I was just discussing the "state" of fast food tonight with my brother. While I eat very little fast food, Wendy's and Arby's used to be the only places from which I would order. However, as is the case with all fast food joints, both Wendy's and Arby's have recently nose-dived in the quality of their offerings! After the last few times of ordering from them, I refuse to ever eat Wendy's or Arby's again. As bad as it may sound, there are only 2 fast food sandwiches that I will ever order, and very infrequently, at that. They are- the double cheeseburger from McDonald's- pickles only, thank you very much, and the good old Whopper w/ cheese from Burger King.

Burger King must have done a customer survey where it was determined that "hot" was the most important element. Sadly, in order to deliver "hot" they have fallen back on the old stand-by, a micro-wave. Everything is pre-cooked and after nuking, I am not sure it matters if the burger was flame broiled or fried. Basically, they are serving a glorified 7-11 burger.

In my earlier days I don't think any FF place knew what a microwave was. So sad but yet so predictable.

I think that there are four things going on:

                                                1. Drive-throughs put pressure on to speed things up.

                                                2. The menus got so big that it made it difficult to have enough volume per hour of any individual item to be able to deliver freshly-cooked FF.

                                                3. Downward price pressure, i.e. "dollar" menus.

                                                4. Customers put up with it.

I actually knew of a BK thet made a consistantly good Whopper. They charged full price while other loctions had the deals. Now the price has droped to " 2 for $3 ". I bet the quility has gone the same direction as the price.

                                                    A little found history.

One of the favorite fast food places to eat, Burger King was officially established in 1954 in Miami, Florida by two Hotel Administration graduates from a local college. Sensing that McDonald’s would be a success David Edgerton and James McLamore established a fast food hamburger restaurant called Insta Burger King.

A few years later James McLamore would introduce Burger King’s signature sandwich, The Whopper now dubbed as America’s favorite sandwich. The menu also began to expand from simple burgers and fries to include fish and chicken sandwiches. With much success they forged ahead, but were frequently met with pitfalls, trials and tribulations in the coming years.

Burger King has been owned and sold by more companies than I care to list. The franchise has also caused controversy between rivals like Wendy’s and McDonald’s by claiming that their burgers taste better. The Burger King of Australia, called Hungry Jack, had trouble with Burger King over name problems since there was a name of a Pillsbury product in America called Hungry Jack and Pillsbury just happened to own Burger King at the time of the controversy.

Through all of the messes that the corporation has run into over the past 50+ years, Burger King still remains a solid foundation and a house hold name with its famous Whopper sandwich
