Burger King sold for 4 Billion

You may not like BK but I sorta wish I had a good portion of their stock.

I suppose we only need to look backward to history what this means. The investment group wants profit now. Here we go again with the "return to our roots" to regain market share strategy that's a page out of their past playbook. "We're going to return to what we do well". Back to burgers and basics and out with the diversified gourmet burgers and other offerings. My guess at least.

They need to make their french fries like McDonalds, their stock price and profitability will soar. As you can tell, I like the flame broiled patty over the skillet cooked patty!

I had a coupon for a free cheeseburger; it was rung up (and credited back) at $1.29. When asked why a single cheeseburger cost 29 cents more than a Buck Double, I was informed that the Buck Double is, while no end time has been specified, considered to be temporary.

Wasn't that the reason they hired away one of McDonald's executives back in the 70's to McDonaldize their fries? I thought that issue was settled. I don't eat either,so I'm clueless.

Naaaaaa. BK has a bigger, better fish sammich. They have mozzarella sticks, and onion rings. The King kicks the clown in just about every category except the fries. Many years ago, when they cooked their fries in fat, both BK and McD's had the best fries. Now their using vegetable shortening - but even still, McD fries are the best.

There is a small (non-franchised) fast food place that fries their potatoes in peanut oil. They are even better than the McD's fries!

One of our local BKs has closed. The others no longer supply napkins except for a few with your order.  New guys at the home office can't change much, unless they get the franchisees on board. I am told that a big diff between BK and McD is that BK has more large franchisees (hard to keep in line) while McD has mostly corporate stores or franchisees who own just one or a few stores. Most McD local owners came up through the system and are true believers. A lot of BK franchisees are "businessmen".

Well, I've seen one change already. The only thing that I've had from BK in years is the recent buck double that I'd pick up a few for my mate & I in a pinch. Last time, about two weeks ago I was hit with a figure higher then what I'm used to. They charged me $1.29 and told me they haven't had buck doubles in quite a while. When I got home and unpacked the bag, all were wrapped in buck double wrappers. I don't know if this is all the BK's or just this one nearby. They never all seem to be on the same page with promotions and loss leaders and their participation varies widely.

I was getting the $1 Double Cheeseburger once and a while when it was offered.  There is one BK that is especially convenient for me when I'm shopping, etc.  (DawnT, it's the one in front of Brands Mart on South Dixie)

They stopped staffing two drive-through windows, so now one has to pay and get the food at the same window.  Two cars in front of you might be a quarter-hour wait.  I tried going inside a couple of times, and it was worse.  Not enough staffing.  15-20 minute waits when there were few customers.
    I'm done with that store.

I didn't know that there were any BK's still using the two window system like most McDonald's use. For the most part, it's always, "second window please", even in newly renovated ones the 1rst window is never used.

Ever since they put in these new, combined infrared/flame broilers and all of this grid of plastic holding draws for all of the new entrees, the quality has plumeted. Most of the double burgers we did get were often very dry and had to have been broiled hours b4.

Checker's has a better product. Something to look forward to when we go down dixie towards the Falls and catch that one on 136'th on the way back home.

One thing about Burger King: Launching a complaint with corporate headquarters is next to impossible. And there's no way you will actually TALK to someone. On a whim, I bought a triple Whopper with cheese a couple of years ago. I was charged somewhat more than the price quoted on the sign. When I asked, I was told by the manager that, "Triple Whopper w. Cheese" stood for "Triple Whopper WITHOUT Cheese." I kept the receipt and took a picture of the sign. With some difficulty, I found an email address for BK corporate (I wasn't about to spend money on printing a photo and postage), and sent in copies of the receipt and the photo. I got nothing but an empty "Sorry, we won't cheat you again." reply. I should have gone right to Weights and Measures.
