Buttermilk baking mix Wed, 12/21/05 7:56 AM (permalink)
Could someone please tell me what Buttermilk baking mix is? I've checked a couple of local grocery stores and the only thing I could find is Buttermilk powder or buttermilk pancake mix is this the item I'm looking for? Thanks for your help. Jim

Thank's Capt still looking found a recipe on web but I'm a little queasy about storing a somewhat fresh dairy product on shelf aka Buttermilk mixed in with the flour sounds like a starter to me. Buon Natale, Ciao Jim Or as usuall chow

          Here's a recipe using buttermilk powder: http://www.cyber-kitchen.com/ubbs/archive/MIXES/Buttermilk_Baking_Mix_.html

If I were to make that (and now that I found it I will) I'd store it in the freezer in tightly sealed Tupperware containers, or as I sometimes do, evacuated and sealed freezer bags. Long "shelf" life that way. I love buttermilk waffles and biscuits, so this stuff looks like the ticket.

Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Nuevo Jim.
