COFFEE!!! Sat, 11/24/07 8:50 AM (permalink)
I'm not sure where to put this topic, since so many of us drink coffee with our food. I guess it's safest with desserts.
Well, what item draws more different "likes and dislikes" than coffee. We all have our preferences..dark,light,black sweet,unsweetened,cream,milk...etc. Brands??? Places that serve the best? What food item has more variations. How about your favorites?
I confess,I'm a coffee snob.It has to be quality....weak poorly roasted coffees need not apply! I choose Gevalia Breakfast roast for my morning start up...and I'll experiment with coffees for meals. Any suggestions????? Any thoughts and/or comments. I'd like to talk more about my favorite brew, but I smell my Gevalia calling. Time to enjoy my morning cup.

I'm sorry, but I have just returned from Italy and I'm afraid I have been spoiled terribly after drinking all the fantastic espresso's I consumed while there. Nothing tastes as good to me since my return. Not even my own wonderful espresso that I make every morning.
I'll say this, Illy Cafe (brand) sells the best tasting coffee you can buy off a store shelf.

Having given up drinking anything stronger then coffee, I now of course drink too much coffee. If I remember correctly it’s supposed to be good for Alzheimer’s. I must confess that at first I thought Starbucks was some sort of gimmick for urban hippie wannabes that drive Volvos and wear big sweaters – then I realized, that was me, now I embrace my Starbucks. I take the long way home sipping my Grande Costa Rica Tarrazu and nibbling on a piece of lemon cake, their pastries are fantastic.

I need some sort of coffee machine for at home yet. My French press works pretty well, but it doesn't have the same smoothness.

                No McStarbucks for me!
They used to be good, but since they became the chain that they are,
their coffee just tastes "old", not burnt as some people say.

I prefer the local coffee houses, a strong organic french roast in a large 20 oz cup with one "sugar in the raw" and a couple of tablespoons of half and half. Here in Rhode Island there arent many since Dunkin Donut's tasteless coffee tends to run them out of business.

Get a filter that fits over your cup, then heat up some water in the nuker (you got one, you oughta do SOMETHING with it. You don't want to boil the water, though), add the grounds, stir and pour through the filter into your mug. I do that and it makes well water and a can taste good. Add a splash more than the cup holds because the grounds absorb some of the water.

It's funny you should raise this topic now, inasmuch as over the Thanksgiving holiday I dragged out my old steel percolator. I ground up Starbuck's "Sumatra" beans at the grocery the day before.

Over the weekend that followed, I made at least four pots of fresh coffee using six measures for every basket, and filling the level with fresh cold water to the "8" mark.

Excellent, but a minor time-consuming chore, as you have to watch for the first perking and then turn things down for six minutes (my way, but the perking time is your call).

Again, great coffee and a grand crowd-pleaser for desserts. I'm going to perk a pot every weekend now.

We have a burr grinder and grind the coffee beans just before brewing. We use a standard drip brewer. It works good enough. The quality is almost all in the beans you buy. I'm not adverse to Starbucks but we mostly buy Caribou beans. I will buy the Starbucks seasonal Christmas Blend that should be on the shelves by now.

I could drink coffee all day long. It always tastes good tome and and I'll drink before bedtime as well. What I make at home is 8 O'clock brand.

I don't really have a preference. I'm a third shifter so coffee is like liquid gold and fine at all times of the day. My co-workers and I like to make it as strong as possible, 8-10 scoops is really good. (We like it when you need to drink it with a straw... Just Kidding!!) I like both the store bought brands and the stuff from the chains. The only time I buy from the chains is when I am with my wife. She prefers Starbucks, but we like Dunkin Donuts too, really doesn't matter to us, whichever is closer.

I've never liked coffee ice cream since it's too creamy and I drink my coffee black, but all this talk of coffee ice cream makes me want to give it a try!
