I think it should be held when Maryland Crabs are in season. I loved G&M and would be happy to go back, but just thought some other place might be a good new experience for all of us.

Cheers, John

John,

Thanks for the kind words. It was a pleasure doing it and meeting everyone, and I'm glad that we sort of spawned the subsequent Cheesesteak Tour, although it was thought up first, and John Fox's Hot Dog Tour.

I sort of agree with you that we might want to try someplace different. I'll have to consult with that fellow who said he's buying.

Hillbilly, Mini of Towson, you were even closer to me than at G&M.

I am sincerely apologetic if you collection of mooches have mistaken by generosity of spirit as some sort of generosity of either planning or paying of and for this "crustacean cartel." Perhaps such a misunderstanding lay in my offer to BYE -- meaning that I saw no opponent to my advancing to the 2005 Crabstock without having to plan or purchase a darn thing.

Am I wrong on this? Do we need a conference call with an outside facilitator to sort out where exactly you all went wrong?

i-95: None of us went wrong - it was you who invited us, If its Dutch treat that's OK with us .
We'll be glad to meet with you whenever and wherever you and Signman and Meozart get your act together and find a place that will have us - but, believe me, it is Howard who knows his crabcake joints in the Baltimore area so follow his lead.

Cheers, John

We enjoyed meeting everyone at last years Crabfest, and ate at Cantler's while we were down there. I thought Cantler's was EXCELLENT. Many long tables and not much for a separate dining room. I doubt we could have the entire porch for ourselves as it was very popular. But the crab cakes sure were good!

Crabstock 2005? Oooh! Twist my arm!

Those Crab Cakes were so good, I ordered a bunch via G&M's excellent mail order service. For any of you not inclined to drive to Baltimore, I highly recommend this service. They are well packed and easy to fix at home.

In fact, two crabcakes are defrosting as I write this for a special-occassion dinner tonight!

Nothing's better than home made crab cakes, but the biggest and next best I've had was at
Mahi Mah's in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Edited to add...

After reading all of the older posts in this thread and looking at G&M's website, my mouth is watering for some crab cakes. I'm ready to drive there now just to taste them! I think I'll try the mail order.

All please forgive me for not reading through ALL of these posts. I really doubt this questions is here.

I'm in a dilemma....my Mom needs nor wants anything for Christmas. She LOVES crab cakes and has been known to order several times from QVC(they weren't bad!. I'm in Gainesville, FL and real crab cakes are RARELY found here unless you count LJS and that's just plain gross. Has anyone ever mail ordered these before with satisfactory results? Can you recommend, or should I call our one and ONLY seafood market here and ask if we have any local restaurants that make them fresh and buy her some. I want them uncooked of course.

Thanks all!

I agree. I am going to order from there also. They have the best prices for a very excellent crabcake. You must hurry fast as is the email that I received from them:

Christmas is around the corner and our December 22nd deadline for shipping orders is even closer. Make sure the crab cake aficionados get their fill this holiday season by getting your orders in on time. Visit our website at www.gandmcrabcakes.com to place your order today.

From our family to yours... we wish you a happy and safe holiday season!

Rusty: Get Chezkatie and OCDreamer to give you their recipes- they know crabcakes! I've never had a crabcake like the great one I had at G and M last April , and I don't think anyone can duplicate it. So, I suggest you surprise your Mom, get some lump crabmeat from the Chesapeake and cook her some crabcakes as per the ladies who know all about that particular delight.

Cheers, John

Say John, I can suggest a road trip for you. If you follow this link http://www.liberty-ship.com/ you'll see a floating museum that may be of interest. The hotel that everyone stays in when they sign up for a day long cruise on a Wold War II Liberty Ship is 5 minutes away from G&M. My wife and I did this last year and found G&M by recommendation from the guys at the front desk of the Holiday Inn. I remember reading the menu and tinking one or two crabcake dinner, hell I could eat 3. That was before I saw how big they make them.

In Houston, Vic and Anthony's downtown, a Fertitta (Landry's, Joes Crab Shack) owned non-chain steakhouse had the best, huge, fresh, no bread--I don't know what holds it together--crabcake as an appetizer.

Me again.... I had my daughter look through my recipes at home and she found one that came from this site. The "binder" is cracker crumbs. Is that OCDREMER? If I use crumbs do I smash h-ll out of them myself or could I use cracker meal, OR is that something completely different.

Call them back and ask if it is pasteurized. If it is, you do not want it! A lot of our stores advertise FRESH crab and when you go to the store, it is labeled pasteurized which is not the same thing as FRESH
