What about Prices. John? How does the 'quality' relate to the 'cost?

I didn't pay too much attention to the prices, but I grabbed a few menus, so I can give some of the prices. Maybe Long Dog can provide the rest. I had the basic dog at each place; some places I had chili on half. Of course the more toppings, the higher the price. Danny's was $1.90 for a regular size dog w/mustard, relish, and sauerkraut. A chili dog was $2.45. The long dog w/works was $2.50. Specialty dogs ranged from $2.75 to $3.50.

Rosco's was $2.50 for the regular (6 to a lb) dog and $3.50 for a quarter pounder. Some toppings are free, others are 30 cents extra.

At Capitol Lunch, I think the dogs were $1.45 for a very small dog. I don't have a menu.

    Blackies, I have no idea.

The Glenwood's long dog was $2.50 plain.

Mac's dog w/works was $1.90. Free toppings include mustard, relish, raw onions, kraut & bacon bits. Cheese dog $2.15, chili dog $2.15, and chili-cheese dog $2.40.

The Super Duper Weenie in Stratford charged $2.25 for a plain dog. I'm pretty sure that this dog is smaller than at the Fairfield location. Specialty dogs were $3.00, with the Georgia Red Hot (spicy Southern sausage with sauerkraut, mustard & homemade sweet relish) going for $3.75.

I'd say that prices overall were pretty reasonable as they relate to quality. Some places in Jersey; Syd's, the Windmill, and Max's in particular, serve high quality dogs, but are in my opinion too expensive. A plain 5 to a lb dog (very similar in size to the Glenwood) goes for $3.29 at Syd's. Max's and the Windmill serve 1/4 pounders like Rosco's, but charge close to $4.00 for them. And they aren't as good as Rosco's. What I like to do is to buy the same dogs and prepare them at home. I love the all beef dogs at Syd's. I buy them from the factory at close to wholesale. Factor in the price of a roll, and I get the same dog at home (prepared the same way) for about $70 cents rather than $3.29.

I was glad to bring John to the places that I had selected for the CT hot dog tour.

I felt like a personal tour guide, since my carload was the only vehicle for 5 of the 7 stops. If my girlfriend and her mother hadn't met us at the Glenwood, that number would have been 6 out of 7.

To me, the biggest and only disappointment of the day was the lack of participation, even though the date of the tour was first posted on this site in early September (right after the Jersey tour) before I started this thread.

I feel bad for the three establishments that knew about the tour by reading this site and were expecting a bunch of people to sample their food. As John said in an earlier post, I didn't contact any of the places to let them know what was happening.

John - I know you had a good time. Let me know when you want to come back. You pick the places that you want to go to, and I'll drive.

BTW - the price of a Blackie's dog is $1.75, and Capitol Lunch is $1.45.

          Long Dog & John:

Sorry we could not catch up with you. As I had posted earlier, we were going to make the first leg of the trip (Danny's & Rosco's), as we had a weekend in Boston planned. We got out late Saturday morning, so we skipped Danny's and headed straight to Rosco's, it being on the way to Boston. Unsurprisingly, the maps.yahoo directions were inaccurate, to say the least, so we were delayed even further. When we finally got there, Ron told us we had just missed you "by two minutes." Oh well.....Rosco's was really great (to echo the above sentiments), and it was a lot of fun talking with Ron -- he is really dedicated to his craft.

              John -

In reference to having someone review Rosco's, I sent all of the necessary information, including pictures and a written review to the site towards the end of June.

Some time in early September I noticed that the written review that I had submitted disappeared, so I wrote a new one and submitted it on September 12th.

Nothing has been done about it, and when I try to edit the review, I keep getting an error message, although the pictures are still there. I have more pictures to submit, but why bother when the pics from June still haven't been published.

I don't know what else can be done from my end to have this review published on this site.

                long dog,

Right. I had forgotten that you reviewed Rosco's. I remember the pictures and the review. But I forget how you get to the pictures. How do you?

Other hot dog places that have been reviewed by the staff of Roadfood also have reviews by members. I don't know why they won't publish yours. Or go there themselves. If ever there is a place that deserves a review, it is Rosco's. Everyone that has been there loves the food. Oh well, maybe soon.

from the "starting points" on the home page, click on submit a review.
Do "Connecticut" for the state, and "R" for the Restaurant name.
Click the "edit" on the Rosco's line.
                  Click "Submit a New Photo".

Like I said, these are the original photos that I sent in June.
I have several more to post (I've taken pictures of every specialty dog), but I'm waiting for the review to be published.

                      Duke -
I, personally, like Duchess for dogs.

But, like almost every other place in the Bpt/New Haven greater area; they serve Hummel's.

The purpose of the tour was to sample different brands of dogs.
If the brand was the same, then the preparation was different.

And now we can add Super Duper Weenie to the list of dog places that serve Hummel's. They're still prepared the same way as when Gary served Miller's dogs - split and griddled.
