Cafe Brenda/Minneapolis is closed

While doing a little research for an upcoming trip, I found out that Cafe Brenda in downtown Minneapolis has closed.  This place appeared in the Jane & Michael Stern Eat Your Way Across the USA books.  A vegetarian friendly restaurant, I ate here about a decade ago and thoroughly enjoyed my meal.  It was in a very cool building, with a high ceiling and tall windows.  Too bad!  Anyone else been here?

I, at one time, worked in the building where Cafe Brenda was located. Brenda Langton closed it to concentrate all her efforts on a new restaurant, Spoonriver located next to the new Guthrie Theater. Cafe Brenda was located in what was once hot back in the 80s called the Warehouse District. Many restaurants have fallen on hard times in that area but I suspect there will be a renaissance once the new Minnesota Twins Target Field gets going in one month.

 This was the place that made me realize that vegetarians might not be COMPLETELY crazy...   Mmmm... Sweet potato Ravioli!

Even though I was treated very well while dining at Cafe Brenda, I did feel out of place at a vegetarian restaurant.  It was like a wolf in sheeps clothes!

Looks like the Anderson House in Wabasha has also closed it's doors.

It was 65 degrees yesterday so we drove to Stillwater to play in the Amazing park, Then since it was so nice out I begged to go on to Taylor's Falls so we could go to "The Drive-in" for (homemade?) Root beer and onion rings....But 65 degrees or not , CLOSED! lousy Smarch weather.  Anyhoo, you may want to check it out, I haven't been in 2 years but it has always been perfectly drive-inishly delicious. and tons of stuff to do/see in the area.    sorry I don't know how to put the website up...   Dawn

Most drive-ins in Minnesota stay closed until about April 1. Just a few open in March. I drove by the new Galaxy Drive In (formerly Wagner's) on Highway 7 in St. Louis Park and their sign said opening April 1.

Anderson House has been closed for a while now. The cats have been dispersed.

Cafe Brenda was not totally vegetarian. There were some fish dinners included in the menu.

I noticed that the Peppermint Twist Drive-In in Delano is already open for the season!

I suspect they are flexible based on the weather. The ice is still on our lakes and the snow didn't melt until this past week. Peppermint Twist also closed a bit earlier last fall than I expected.
