Cafe Request Tue, 10/26/10 8:56 PM (permalink)
Hey Everyone,
So I was approached by a local coffee shop today requesting baked goods.  Here is the deal: they don't have a kitchen. It is a really cool coffee shop that only has a license to make liquids.  They have a handful of "vendors" if you will that bring in cookies.  They don't have anyone who brings in breakfast type foods or even other snacks.
They approached me asking if I would be willing to bring in some breakfast foods/snacks....

Any ideas would be appreciated. I don't drink coffee so don't have a true appreciation for this sort of thing.  Due to Ohio's cottage law, it can only be goods that don't require refrigeration after being cooked....

What would you say??? :) Thanks

Darn fine idea! I love Dunkin Donuts and can ALWAYS use an excuse to go there :)  Not for the donuts but for their hot cocoa...mmm.

I hear it is cooling down in FL, a bit at least! :)

I think the key thing is to have a good balance of sweet & savory breakfast items.  I am not a sweet breakfast person, so I don't usually get pastries at Starbucks b/c they are all sweet.  A good zucchini muffin or something with cheese is delicious.

I think the harder thing is to figure out pricing b/c customers are weird about what is a "value" at breakfast.

I will confess to loving a donut from Dunkin' every once in a while--Boston Cream mmmmm.

If I was you, I would do large goods. Here in TN I tried this. Our Domestic kitchen Lic. was very easy to obtain and tried to work out a thing with a upscale coffee in our area. All they wanted to do was low ball me.
By the time I sold to them and they sold to the public cost was to high for the consumer. We were not a high output volume bakery. Did everything with the numbers, but could not make it work for them.
Still do my large(Jumbo) Cinnamon Rolls once a month for friends and pass those out. Half pay Half don't. Just playing. Large Muffins filled with berries is a big seller, Like blueberries, cransons, Have done a M&M  with somewhat success.  Bran ,Bananas and Peach Muffins do well my area.
I don't know how much you traveled but the Big Cinnamon Buns in Emporia, Kansas and San Antonio ,TX are big sellers. These are what I try to achieve. Most of the time I get it right some times very close. LOL Just playing. Not a baker.

I loved your post, totally needed a good first morning smile and laugh! Thanks Seriously though, thanks for the input. I had contemplated how much profit would really be achieved given the double sale that must take place before reaching the consumer though! :)

I will go check out your suggestions, thanks. :)
