It's not ham. It is a sandwich made using slices of Taylor (That's a company) pork roll.

Is it good? Is it worth the search? Let me know, please.

It's OK IMO, but not worth a whole lot of extra effort. REAL ham much better.

It is a regional specialty, here in the Delaware Valley, usually made with a fried eg and cheese, and served on a hard roll.
If you go to seek out pork roll, avoid the Case brand, insist on Taylor, and, if you can, get the product in chunk form, wrapped in fabric, rather than in the sliced form.Much better.

Mike, it's good but probably not worth the cost of importing it for you. When I drive up to Philly I usually buy some to bring home.

                    Dearfolk,
That looks good. I'd like to give that a try sometime. I noted the offering of a Taylor Ham sandwich on a diner menu in Pottsville, PA. when I was up there.
It's probably fortunate that none of the college students in the area in years past thought of absurdly overcooking slices of this and sailing them across the college quad... if they had, instead of Frisbees, you'd have Taylors!
Shipping Off To Shippensburg (Sliding Down Slippery Rock wouldn't work; that's too far west and thus out of Taylor Ham territory!), Ort. Carlton in Far Too Far Southern Athens, Georgia.
                    P. S. I meant Taylor Pork Roll. Oops! Too many years ago; too many good beers since, I guess....

I usually slice it fairly thick, use a couple of slices, grill rather than fry it, and put it on a bulky roll, with a strong mustard

taylor pork roll is a whole lot fattier
                          than canadian bacon.

It is a stronger taste than Canadian bacon, and i usually have some on hand.
try it grilled, with some muenster

You can buy large pork rolls at BJ's or you could in the past, I haven't been there in ages. I usually get my dad or brother to ship a couple of the smaller rolls a couple times a yr

Taylor Ham was on travel T.V. last night. They said it comes from New Jersey. They said it is very good. Did you see this? What do you think ?

In that picture it looks very similar to fried bologna. Is the taste at all similar?

Im not sure where it comes from but being born and raised in so.jersey it was a staple as well as a favorite and often bought at small food stands on the way to the shore or Webber/Stewarts.

Like I mentioned b4 porkroll is or was available at our local BJ's warehouse. It's thge larger version about 6" across and 2' long, which even for someone who likes it A LOT is A LOT! A quick search for taylor porkroll showed a lot of sites where it can be purchased online or by phone along with other regional specialties like scrapple

We don't have BJ's Warehouse in this area, and to add shipping cost on, is it worth it?

                                              I was at our local {Newark, DE} BJ's yesterday.
The brand of pork roll they had for sale was Trenton, which is not as good as Taylor

                                                To all,

Do anyone out there know of a store in the midwest area, in or near Chicago, that would have Taylor Ham, or a place that serves it?
