Cancer (Krebs) Fri, 08/28/09 8:36 PM (permalink)
Greetings, Forum!

Very many of our beloved persons died by cancer, like several of my very best friends. In the summer of 2008, my beloved friend Gerd passed away, lung cancer, at the age of 51 years, Gerd was a very heavy smoker.

I just passed my 53rd birthday, a few weeks ago, and I am aware, there is not very much time left over here for me, I do not like to talk about the details, all this does not belong in an internet forum.

Did you ever "encounter" to this final disease, would you please so kind, to share some thougths...

Michael

I had kidney cancer in 2006; it was caught in time, and I am fully recovered. It was good that it was caught in time; if it metastasizes, there is no treatment, you die. Radiation and chemo have no effect on adenotumors. It's cut and pray.

My mother died from breast cancer. Her father died of colon cancer.

My oldest sister had a double mastectomy last year. My older sister had cervical cancer last year, two different types of tumors. We are doubly cursed because we carry the gene for Lynch Syndrome, and our mother took diethylstilboestrol during her pregnancies. My kidney cancer was probably related to the DES my mother took; both of my sisters' cancers undoubtedly were. I will probably die from either cancer or heart disease (I had bypass when I was 37).

I am curious; if you are in a bad way with cancer, why bother with the alcohol treatment?

I had thyroid cancer 5 years ago.  It's supposedly the cancer to have if you're going to have it.

Doesn't keep me from thinking every ache and pain is something bad.

Chemo doesn't work on thyroid cancer either.  I swallowed the radioactive iodine.

Made me lose the ability to taste anything for several weeks.

Funny, but it didn't stop me from eating.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 4 years ago, supposedly a "nasty" quote the Doc from Johns Hopkins, case of it. I got a second opinion, it wasn't nasty at all, got the prostate out on a Wednesday, was back at my Restaurant the following Monday, no further treatment necessary. I never think of it, don't consider myself a Cancer survivor, get a second opinion, good luck, Godspeed!

When I was diagnosed with bladder cancer, I was told that if I could walk into a room and "shop" for cancer, this would be the cancer that I would want to pick off the shelf.  Now, of course, I envision Flo from the Progressive ads to be there helping me make the right selection.

A friend of mine who was diagnosed with leukemia almost 20 years ago, and was told the exact same story.  It must be one of the things that they teach in medical school.

Same with TC.  Those words do provide encouragement, and Lance Armstrong winning his 6th Tour de France didn't hurt either.  I still wear a yellow wristband.

It seems that every family know of someone who has or had cancer.

I am a breast cancer survivor myself (2 years cancer free) and my oldest brother died 7 years ago from cancer of the spine. I have had 2 aunts that have died from cancer.

Yes cancer is a deadly thing to have but since I was diagnosed with cancer I have really been grateful for each day that I have to spend with my family and friends. I find that I don't let the "small things" in life bother me any more and that I have more patience and stronger feelings than I used to.

Keep going as long as you can and look at the world with new eyes. It is beautiful out there. I sit outside on my patio as many days as I can and watch the squirrels dart around, my dogs chasing them, the beautiful sky and soaking up the warm sun. I find that I am cold alot now and I love the sun. We really do only belong to this world for a short time and make use of everyday that you can.

I am a breast cancer survivor... 5 years cancer free. Hang in there, all of you. Attitude is one of the best weapons we have against canceer or any other disease. My doctor says you can partially predict outcomes by attitude, so be sure you have the best of both!

I like to post a word by Anselm Gruen / Father Aselm Gruen...

                      Entscheidend ist nicht
                      Wie lange ich lebe,
                      was ich alles leisten
                      und vorweisen kann.
                      Entscheidend ist,
                      dass ich mein Herz öffne
                      und mit weitem Herzen
                      jeden Augenblick
                      lebe
