Candied Kielbasa Fri, 01/16/09 8:00 PM (permalink)
I first tasted this at a Superbowl party as an appetizer, and I had to have the recipe.   So easy to make, its pretty famous on the net but often made in a crockpot.  I bake it and serve it with  a chicken brothed white rice when it just for us, its heavy and filling and tasty, sweet and mild spice.  The measurements are for every 2lb ring of kielbasa you buy:

Oven 350F

2lb ring of kielbasa sliced (sorry, I hate the skin, I cut the whole ring into 4 inch pieces, cut off the skin and slice into 1/2 inch slices)

1/2 bottle of horseradish with beets (I like Golds)

1 cup ketchup

1/4 cup brown sugar.

Mix horseradish, ketchup and brown sugar.  Pour on top of sliced kielbasa in a baking dish.
Bake uncovered 45 minutes.  Take out after 20 minutes, stir well, put back in oven, cook 25 minutes more.

All we had afterward was a fruit salad of oranges, pears and apricots.

I havd always liked the versatility of kielbasa. But I tend to chose savory over sweet. Looks like I might just have to try this once, cause it sounds like it may just be the thing to have on a chilly night.

I can see JohnA on this one.....

Fabulous - Great pictures..I see you cut the skin..Wondered what that little slit was for.  If you can find a butcher who makes "K" on the premises, you are very lucky.  Makes a huge difference.

Hillshire and even Johnsonville are just ok.....In Ridgefield, NJ Kosar's (sp) this German butcher makes their own.  Lots of places in Pittsburgh, too.  I like the kind that is not smoked; just raw  like any other type of sausage.  It is really good char-broiled "K"

My neighbor char broils it and then lets it sit in a mixture of steaming beer, butter and soft cooked onions for a few minutes   Mix up some kraut with caraway seeds and some of those soft onions, lather on Sabrette or French's Horseradish mustard and serve on a crispy hoagie roll..Pure heaven.

I whipped this up last week (with Smithfield Kielbasa) and a few added shots of Tabasco (green).

The phone rang, and 15 minutes later, it was gone. It must have been really good cause the eating machines asked if there was any more. Having teenage sons can keep you in really good shape. I enjoyed a plate of  baked tortilla chips, dipped in the sauce. It was tasty.

Not to jack this thread. But had anyone come across a dish that was sliced kielbasa (about 1/4" to a 1/2")  and then laid flat on a large baking try, the Coke-Cola poured onto the try and them baked. I too ran across this as an appetizer at Football Party. Well, being many years ago, I would like to recreate this dish for an appetizer. So, if anyone can beat their brain to see if you had come across this..... I would greatly appreciate it.
                    Thanks

bugmeso I spotted this recipe on the internet that uses a Dutch oven instead of a regular oven to make a Coke-glazed kielbasa, but maybe it could be adapted to be made in a regular oven also:
