Candy Freak ~ a very entertaining book Mon, 09/13/04 3:42 PM (permalink)
I finished reading Candy Freak by Steve Almond ~ a pessimistic writer with a sweet tooth! Cleverly written, this documents his childhood quirks dealing with candy (he has MANY) and a road trip to visit candy manufacturers (think of a sugar-charged adventure ala Planes Trains and Automobiles meets Lucy and the Chocolate Factory!). He visits small, regional factories and gets the factory owners' views on the fierce candy competition and what they're doing to survive.

I think roadfoodies will enjoy this book and empathize (and salivate) with the author's quest to find ultimate chocolates. and caramels.. and nougats..

I’m adding Lake Champlain Chocolates to my "to do list" on our New England trip.
