Capt Tony of Key West passes away..

Anyone who knows Key West, surely knows of Capt Tonys Saloon.
Former mayor and owner of Capt Tonys, he will be surely missed in KW.
I had the pleasure of meeting him ages ago in his namesake infamously decorated bar...

RIP Capt Tony from one former New Jerseyite to another. By the way, my daughter and I saw Jimmy Buffet at the Shoreline Amphetheather in Mountain View CA Oct 21, and he did a wonderful rendition of Last Mango inParis.......

I am sad to hear of the loss of Tony, though his legend with live on.

Sad news...a permanent Key West fixture is gone. I knew him from the time I lived in Key West back in the 70's. He had quite the reputation and quite the bar. In fact, Capt. Tony's used to be the original Sloppy Joes and where Hemingway really went to drink. Should I mention the ceiling motif?

Ummm, sure, I'd like to hear about the "motif". Just noted that Rossy has appeared on scene, and may have some more other interesting facts to add.

BUT, the Jimmy Buffet concert was absolutely wonderful. My ONLY regret is he did not sing my most fav song, "Why don't we get drunk and screw" DARN

Truly Unique Individual has passed, I met him in 1994, he was holding court at Capt Tony's telling about and adventure he had "fishing" off the southern coast of KW.

RIP Capt Tony - Key West will not be the same without you.

3000 parrotheads were in key west for the annual meeting of the minds convention when they heard the news on saturday. Sad day. Sail on Cap'n Tony...

I'll be joining most of Key West tomorrow for a parade down Duval St after the memorial service for our dear, departed Capt. Tony. We'll walk down Duval to Greene St to a block /wake/party in front of Cap't Tony's Saloon.
I remember when Tony was elected mayor of Key West in the 80's and he swore to "do nothing" Those were the greatest days.

Well, it was a motley crew, but a nice turnout for Tony. Each year we mourn the loss of another piece of "Old Key West"
This was a large piece. Good to see a large showing of the Conch Republic out for the parade.

Thats cool.... Of course, Key Westers always send their own off in style anyway....

Sorry, Big K, I was already in the parade and realized I didn't have my camera or even my cell phone.
There was a great photo of Cap't Tony on the front of last Friday's Solares Hill (our little weekly paper) and some photos in the Key West Citizen. Both are available online.
The one on Solares Hill was classic...Tony giving one of his famous hugs~ one hand around the waist and one hand on the breast!!
Had to love him
There was a 21 Dove salute (release) in front of the bar at the end of the parade which was very touching.
