The situation surrounding this is tragic, particularly for his children.  I can't imagine the pain they're going through.

He was a customer of mine at least 6 years ago.  He wasn't well then, sadly.

I read in the paper today that Casey has passed away. Natural causes I believe. The obit mentioned the fracas between his wife and kids but did not elaborate. A representative for his wife notified the press, apparently. RIP, Casey. I always enjoyed his radio countdown and was interested to learn he did so many voiceovers.

His Sad Finale just points out the absolute need to have a Will, A Living Trust, a Medical Power of Attorney and a document that spells out how you want your last days to be handled.
Nothing will ruin a family more than handling the departure of a family member, especially if there's divorces and second marriages involved.

    Ponderous man, f'*in ponderous!

I trust that many 'shock jocks' played that out-take, I also trust that you, like me, heard it on the Don & Mike Show.

Before my former sister-in-law, then the GSM of Q-94 in Richmond, showed one to me I had no idea that Kasem distributed his show nationwide via vinyl LP's.  Man, that was so 20th. Century.

R.I.P., Casey.  You brought a lot of wholesome diversion and joy into the world.  Thanks!

Everyone is concerned about the drama within the family, and I'm over here thinking how awful it must have been for all of them to watch him deteriorate to the point where he could no longer even communicate. We're not too far from it with my dad (although his is the traditional Parkinson's dementia), and it is devastating. Thankfully, we're all good with our stepmom handling everything, and there is no in-fighting about anything. I cannot imagine how much harder it would be if we were all up in arms over his care.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Even with all the good intentions, it's still important to have all the documents in place if for no other reason than to avoid Probate. Those documents will make it even easier for all involved and save the estate assets.
I'm not a lawyer but I've seen well intentioned plans go haywire at the last moment.

Yes, and for pity's sake, let everybody know where the documents are. My mother died in her sleep suddenly and even though we lived together, I had no idea where her and my father's wills were. The house was filled with correspondence and such all mixed together. I turned the place upside down hunting for more than a week before finding it in a filing cabinet. I was all alone and upset and my siblings were unavailable to help me, and even so, they would have had no more idea than I did. I wouldn't be surprised if Mother had told me at some point but it was not made clear. I guess neither of us expected her to go like that and I'm sure she had no intention of making a mess of it for me but I still remember the awful, desolate feeling. Felix, I am sorry about your father.

Thank you both. It's been a long, rough road already, and it's only going to get worse. He's going to be 80 next month, and he was diagnosed when he was in his early 60's.

I appreciate the advice, but everything is handled. When I said my stepmom was handling everything, I meant it. Will, Living Will, etc. have all been in place for years, copies on file with doctors and in their fire safe, and their lawyer has the originals. And there is no such thing as avoiding probate here, even when all paperwork is in order (or even if the estate is already set up in a trust). My stepmom also has all her paperwork in order even though she's considerably younger and has no health issues, because you just never know what could happen.

I can't imagine living in a family where no one knows exactly what everyone's intentions are, where there is no paperwork detailing that, or where no one can find the paperwork if there is some, and with no named executors.

*Didn't mean to turn this into a thread about me, but the timing on the Casey Kasem thing kind of sucked for me. I just saw my dad a couple of weeks ago and he wasn't sure who I was.

    Felix,
I'm glad you have everything in place. I wrote what I did not only for you but for all other Roadfooders who read this thread. Folks, if you haven't taken care of this important business, please do so as soon as possible. Your family will thank you.
I personally think not having these IMPORTANT Documents in place is Criminal Negligence.
