Chain restaurants coming to Niagara Falls - and they think it's a good idea

I just read this article in the Buffalo News and am - I would say surprised, but shouldn't be - maybe saddened is a better word. Come to one of the natural wonders of the world and then eat, not at Schwabl's, Ted's, Anchor Bar, but Applebees! After all, you can't find one of them anywhere else. With all the local places we have in the Buffalo / Niagara Falls area, this is the wrong way to go. Chain restaurants to come to Niagara Falls

Only in America! Give 150 G's in tax dollars, to bring a Friday's to town, so they can take money away from the people who paid the taxes.

If you look on google earth where the applebee's is you'll see big hotels with banners flying high, saying things like "we're cheaper than the guys next door". We were gonna go up there this summer but it looks seedy to me.

45013 Is this Niagara Falls, New York or Ontario? So far as I can tell, the new restaurants are planned for the American side. The best advice for a Niagara Falls visitor who wants roadfood would be to travel to Buffalo and try some of the many places (like Ted's, Anderson's, Schwabl's, etc.). Unfortunately Niagara Falls is a bit of a wasteland in culinary terms.

I went to school in Buffalo for a couple of years, and after that first visit, I always went to the Canadian side. The view of the falls is better there, too.

Haven't been to Buffalo since 1969 or70,when we drove there from Alaska to visit my mom's side of the family before we headed to Fort meade, maryland, where my dad was to work at NSA. Yum,Ted's hotdogs. don't however remember much about the fllas, though we did visit Fort Niagra. Yeah there must be good places on both sides of the border, besides Applebee's.

It is very sad - that whole area seems to be in love with chains (and mediocre chains at that) The Buffalo Chow blog has decided to call it quits because most of his buffalo friends love going to Olive Garden even when they get mediocre food and terrible service at a not s hot price , and know they will get the same the next time. He just felt it was swimming against the tide of the area. Heck they are getting BUFFALO WILD WINGS in Buffalo. Meanwhile I had excellent wings in Buffalo these past few weeks including Duffs (I asked for them extra crispy, which for them means about average for other places, also Duffs seems hotter when you ask for medium than other places) and from a little neighborhood restaurant called La Bella Sicilia - actually some life long residents of Buffalo I took there said they were the best wings they had had in years. I always ask for my wings crispy (or as I say "crispy, keep em down a minute or so longer") and there when I did that they came out IMO perfect. I will have a full mini trip report of my Buffalo trip some time in the next week I hope.

HollyDolly, Buffalo really does have many good roadfood style restaurants. In fact, Roadfood had a food tour here and in Rochester a few years ago. For some reason Niagara Falls is lacking, although it does have some good places as well. NascarDad, I'm looking forward to reading your report.

Thanks for making these recommendations. I have never stopped Danny's, mainly because I am usually rushing to or from the airport when in the area, but will make a stop now that I know about it.
