There is a small chain in the Raleigh area called the "Char Grill". They have great burgers in my humble opinion. I used to get the regular char burger with catsup/ketchup, mustard, pickle, and onion. Good for the soul.

I ate MANY burgers at Char-Grill when I lived in Cary from 1987-1999. The big burger that they now call hamburger steak was then the 'Steak Sandwich" and the smaller was "Steak Jr". No inside seating (a couple of picnic tables outside). Pick up a small menu slip, mark the sandwich, dressings and sides you want, watch them plop the fresh meat on the charcoal grill and wait for your number to be called when your order is ready to pick up at the window. It ranks among the best, and probably is the very best, burger that I have ever had. That half-pounder is one helluva meal.

Char-grill is great...location on Hillsborough Street is the original. No inside dining...tables and carryout only. Best burger in the Carolinas.

First reply and what a great place to comment on. Char Grill should be a "must stop" for any lover of road food. Try the original store on Hillsbourgh St to get the best feel of their system. I left the Raleigh area in '96 and still look forward to a visit there each trip to N.C. I order the standard Cheeseburgers with mustard, onions and chili, fries and either a pepsi or a shake. Try it soon.
