Charlies Pool Room Hot Dog Meet Monday October 12th , 2009

Hello all ,
 
We will be having a special Columbus Day Hot Dog Meet at Charlies Pool Room in Alpha NJ this coming Monday .
 
Time is Noon to about  3 pm
 
John and Joe the owners are opening for our group  as they are usually closed on Mondays
 
If  you are interested in attending just let us know so we can give them a head count .

It was a pleasure to meet old friends, and make new friends at the Official CPR Meet-Up.
 
John Sagi from http://thegourmetchilidog.com/ and  I were the first to arrive for the CPR meet up.  Besides making a killer hot dog sauce, John is compiling a nationwide list of hot dog vendors.  A great tool for hot dog lovers on the road.

I feel bad that I didn't get a picture of John Fencz.  He was too busy cooking our dogs to come out for a picture.  Next time John.

Reflecting on the Columbus Day pilgrimage to Charlie’s Pool Room, wherein we annually rediscover the exceptional hospitality availed to us by the Brothers Fencz, Joe and John, those fine Hot Dog Gentlemen of Renown, I wish to note that it was great to again be with kindred spirits.
 
   The fraternity is indescribable as we hot dog enthusiasts gather to mutually enjoy a few franks, swap some tales and bask in the glow of our camaraderie.
 
   It was so nice to see everyone, and see them again thanks to Joerogo’s photographic synopsis of our meet.   And gosh, thanks for the kind appraisal, Joeorogo.

I'm hoping that we can do this every Columbus Day. And a few times in between also. I'm also up for other small outings. Sunday works for me as I usually work Saturdays.

I forgot to mention, when I arrived at CPR, Joe Fencz came over to me and asked about Cebula's Pizza.  Somebody on an eating tour brought a tray for him, he said it was the best pizza he ever had.  Cebula's is only about two miles from where I grew up, I haven't had their pizza in a long time, but I remember it well.

Cebula's pizza is legendary, we call it Polish Pizza.  Rumor has it, they use potatoes in the dough, then they bake it until the cheese bubbles and turns black. 

I stopped by Cebula's for pizza last night, delicious, as usual.  I owe Joe Fencz a big Thank You for reminding me about this great  old time pizza place in my own back yard.

I'm glad Joe & John enjoyed Cebula's pizza, Joe remarked that Cebula's is to pizza as CPR is to hotdogs, I agree with him whole heartedly. Their  potatoe dough crust and the combination of Cheddar,riccota and Mozzarela cheeses make for a very unique and distinctive flavour. From Scranton to Wilkesbarre their are a lot of very good pizzaria's but my favorite is Cebula's.

I always thought there was american cheese in the mix also.  Either way, great pizza!  How did you come across Cebula's? 

Hi Joe, my Greatgrandparents were from Dupont, we used to spend part of our summer vacation visiting our relatives from the area. Cebula's pizza was always a treat,that and the great homemade polish food during the polish picnic at Sacred Heart.

Sorry I missed you guys. Go figure I ended up in Alpha and about 3:05 for work, drove by CPR and saw no cars so I kept going. Glad to hear you guys had a great time. I know Joe and John read these so guys I'm well overdue for a dog with the sauce with shoes.

I don't want to hi-jack a CPR hot dog thread, but when Joe Fencz says that Cebula's is to pizza, what CPR is to hot dogs, I think a couple of pics are in order.
 
Take-out last night from Cebula's.  This is a very unique pizza and very heavy.  Two cuts are enough for me.  big g in joisey , eat your heart out

I was paraphrasing the first time but I believe Joe Fencz quote was "Cebula's is the CPR of Pizza", hope I got it right. Anyway Joe & John always get the Mealies right,had three Mealies and two with M/O last night. Will have to go for a doubleplay, Cebula's then CPR.

catherine s, I don't remember even seeing topping on the menu.  The only other items on the menu were burgers and cheese steaks.

Hi Applecheeks, I wouldn't mind at all, the only problem is I don't think the Mealies would survive the trip back, the sweet aroma of Grandma Fenczes Homemade Onion Sauce,with those precisely diced onions and perfectly placed red and green peppers all on a pan fried to perfection kunzler hotdog sitting in a pillowy soft fresh steamed roll , the temptation might be to much for the return trip. 

Big G - I hear ya.  I brought 6 home with me and I think we made it half way home when I dove into the bag for one of those perfect dogs.  That aroma sure does get to you.

Any plans for a 2010 meet & greet at Charlies Pool Room, it was nice to meet so many of our fellow Roadfood hotdog enthusiasts last year.

There have been no mini meet plans for Charlies this year buddy , we are planning our Annual Holiday gathering for lunch at Coney Island rest. in Middeltown NY , but I may be up for a trip back to Charlies in the near future  to see John and Joe again .

Its up to John and Joe , Saturdays are their busy day so they really cant handle a big crowd , and we almost have to have the place  to ourselves with  the size of the group .
I'm up for a trip during the week also , but
I know its difficult for most to make .
I will run it by John Fox ands ee what he thinks about it
